After the first episode, I loved Morriss Chestnut's character (Ryan?). I was extremely disappointed that the plot elements that were introduced in the first episode did not advance in the slightest. But I will say that I do like some of the characters....the FBI agent, the priest, and the news guy are all pretty good characters. The problem is, of course, that there is no character development going on, and that's pretty typical of a...

While I have no doubt that violence depicted on TC is troublesome, I don't really trust PTC. Is there a more reputable source for these stats?

I heard back from my friend, who said the paper he read was by Arthur De Vany, entitled "Hollywood Economics: How Extreme Uncertainty Shapes the Film Industry." (I remember seeing the IPO for Touchstone, whose first film was Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and quite a blockbuster. Wouldn't it have been nice to have bought in for a few shares?) Silas

I played women's soccer in college and know it can get pretty nasty out there, but it just seems more shocking when you can see it from a spectator's perspective.

A question-do you have to buy a license for or register each television you own? If so I could easily imagine that many people having old B&W sets out in their garages or whatever.

Anyway, applied for clan snopes - using citizen James over there (somehow saint James was taken - citizen James was my original login anyway (until I changed ISP's and lost my old password).

I still haven't worked out why a meerkat would be Russian. (Well he's obviously based on White Russians in exile, but that doesn't explain it)

I'm flitting between The Sims 3 (which ate Friday) and Knights in the Nightmare for the DS. The latter is part of a loosely-connected series of RPGs set in a series called "Dept Heaven", though this is the first I've played.
So far, it's very, very strange. It's a strategy RPG, but movement and attacking is completely different from any I've played before. Rather than wide open maps that ...

Damn, even a fake sort of moustache? That's harsh. I know it sounds cheesy to say it's brave of her to look like a "normal" person but clearly it was hard for her. She's so used to looking gorgeous it must be hard for her to have come down to be a lowly peon. Though if she has not a single hair on her forearm, I'm going to guess she assiduously waxes.

Australia have got a decent side, ranked just below Ireland at 37 - certainly in the last world cup they were only denied a QF shot by a last minute penalty. I'd have them as weighty favourites to beat Bahrain out of sight.
Are there any Premiership quality Aussie players coming through the ranks? The days of Schwatzer, Kewell and Viduka are slipping away. Neil, Emerton and Cahill are decent...

I'll mention this to a friend of mine who edits scientific papers for a publisher of journals. He once handled a paper that said, in statistical terms, that hit movies were unpredictable: that there was no such formula for predicting box-office success or failure. Having a good cast, a good writer, a good director, even having a good special-effects house, are only slightly correlated with ...
