I would bet that they still name whomever is #1 to the Olympic team- even if it's Bebe, who is known to falter - but it's good to know they at least CONSIDER that it might not be the best choice.

I believe the rules are that if a skater wins Nationals, then they automatically make the Oly team. The second (and if applicable, third) place skater is not an automatic placement. Kwan was in a similar situation, but I don't remember her taking off a few years from national or international competition before that year, as Cohen has.

Book: "How Figure Skating...

There's a new book for kids about figure skating that I thought I'd clue some people into if they're thinking about gifts for young skaters. "How Figure Skating Works" by Keltie Thomas http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...-9781897349595 The online info looks like a cute book, technical without being boring. Less than $10 is a good price. Have to see if B&N has it in stock so I can check it out before...

I agree with icedancer2. I didn't think she would really do Skate America, and I don't think she'll show up for Nationals, either.

Anyone thing that Sasha is doing exactly the same thing as Michelle back in 2006 when she said she was coming back but didn't show up for anything including Nationals? I don't think Sasha's coming back, guys!!! Makes no sense!

I don't think it's fair for her to get a bye to Nats, given that she hasn't competed this season. The GP's would have excused her, but since she didn't do them, I don't understand why she still gets to go straight to Nationals w/ no qualifying competitions.

Naked figure skating - now that would be a really x-rated sport.....although the overhead cameras at the GP's have shown us more than enough lately, especially with the Russian pair lifts.......ewww

The message was a little too long for my taste and way over my budget. (I'm so cheap, I'm still holding out false hope for an IceNetwork discount, lol.)
I know that skates cost $1,000 (or more) per pair and that a great sharpening is well worth $20. It would be different if I was a true fan who followed a particular skater or team. Then I'd want to support him/her directly, rather than ...
