You mean cut it a bit shorter? Can your coach edit it for you? That might be the easier thing if you aren't very familiar with editing software.

You really need to read the whole story to understand why the experimental results are so interesting, but the part that concerns what we call "muscle memory" can be found if you do a search on "series of studies". NYT story on the death of Henry Molaison, aka patient "H.M."

Yes, I think you are right about USFS. Took a quick look at ISI and it looks like they kind of lump everything together after test 5 or 6, so would only have to go that high. This might be the answer!!! Have to look further into it when I get some time. Work. Holidays. Skating. UGH!!!! Too much! Need 12 more hours in day. Same work load. Might get something done then.

People do stuff like that in USFS interpretive events, too. I've seen all kinds of crazy costumes and props. And some really good skating, too! Those events do have jump limits, though.

Hi, Hearing comments at every practice, from other skaters too, like "gosh, what's happening to my ...... (fill-in) skills, I can't seem to do them today, for the life of me" For instance, as a Natural-leftie, for some time my L-foot liked holding my L-glides to count of 20 on the flat; while my R-foot fishtailed like a drunk, stopping the glide. - Well, the coach taught me Edges, (tho we obviously don't skate...

Fusty No group lesson today. Group coach is at a competition. So just fooled around with some of the kids. WOrked on some laybacks...can hold the position from the neck down. Once the head goes back it's all over. Festive Was able to keep the skates on the whole 90 minutes. Wahoo!

Consistency?

Could just be a bad day. Lack of proper rest, nutrition, or illness can cause an athlete to lose their consistency. So can your mental attitude - if a skater is discouraged or upset, it shows in their posture and attitude on the ice. That translates into blown spins and popped jumps. I've always found that there's a pattern to learning new jumps (and some spins.) The skater learns the jump technique, practices, starts landing the...

Let's see now... Festive: Wednesday I had a lesson with primary coach. He and I started the lesson by giving me more footwork drills to do while "warming up." 15 miles on rollerblades, does that count? I've only ice skated outdoors a handfull of times (once on a pond as a kid, a few xmas shows on postage stam-sized fake holiday rink setups as a teenager, and a few times on a full NHL-sized outdoor rink in the area), but never on a river or canal.

I think it's a fine idea. 95% of the audience will have no idea that it's a compulsory dance. We've had people Dutch Waltz in the holiday show before- to holiday music, solo or same sex partnered. This would be even more interesting than that, and give you a chance to put it out in public.

Whenever I have something I'm better at on once side than the other, I practice the off-side more - like I'll do 2 left for every 1 right - for weeks. Then I'll notice one day the "good" side sucks.

I hope to get back to skating regularly, so my 2010 Resolutions are: 1) Start taking lessons again. Back when I had tan skates that were a really light tan color (as opposed to the darker Harlick shade), I had a heck of a time finding tights that matched. I wore some off-brand, I can't even remember what they were, but they sold them at the pro shop in my college's rink. Maybe try some dance web sites? Or I just wore regular easy-to-find brands (Mondor, Danskin), but I washed them a few ...

We don't have the Mario Winter Olympics for Wii, but there's another Winter Olympics for Wii which we do have. There's a figure skating part of that, and frankly, it's quite boring. It's a while since I played it, but if I remember rightly it's basically pushing one button to spin and a different one to jump. The Wii games work much better for things like skiing and ski jumping, where there's ...

I'm coming back from a nasty wicked sprain and hairline fracture in my left ankle (not from figure skating). I've been skating my whole life, but fortunately have had very few serious injuries (2 concussions, stitches in my shin), so having to stay off the ice and basically do nothing but work and go to school for 4 weeks was a new, horrible experience. (Even when I've taken a few months off of...

I emailed the crew of this documentary several times begging them to let me be in it, but they refused to have me in it. They just gave me the song-and-dance about how they couldn't use every adult skater who wanted to be in it. It sure didn't make it easier for me to skate my program in Dallas (2006) with all the cameras around filming every other skater but ignoring me. When I got home, I ...
