Holiday Travel/Absences?
Published (2009-12-18 14:14:00)
Elsewhere in the blogosphere, regular inhabitants of this and that venue are posting about being away for x-number of days due to travel or family invasions...er...gatherings...or whatnot. Decorating, shopping, or glowering at those who do. I'm about to dive into another music hole that I hope won't last more than a week and a half, maybe. That plus a writing hole (agent said "Fix this!") and the holiday baking and...

Just got back from our big grocery and booze run. I am sure I will be sent back out another dozen times b/w now and X-mas. All part of the fun. Enjoy your break Nickee. Good luck with the mega festivities your hosting. Sounds like fun.

I'm trying to keep myself together and not reply to a slightly abusive message I got on Facebook, from my ex-girlfriend's current partner. Not the first time one of her partners has threatened me. Either I attract trouble, or she's got issues. This is why I don't go after relationships

Well, normally, you would find a discussion of that book (authored by Charles Pellegrino?) in the Science Fiction Literature forum, but after a quick search, I've not found any discussion about it yet. Maybe if you start a thread there, you'll find someone "in the know" who can fill you in on it.

I'm going to actually stay put this year. However, my mother will be coming to visit us and see our home for the first time. She will also get to enjoy several days with her first, and increasingly chubby, grandchild.

I agree about loving the feel of a book. I also love the way books smell, I think it's something from my childhood. I'm also into gadgets so I find myself looking at E-Book readers often but for similar reasons to those you mentioned I don't think I'll ever pick one up. They sound like a cool idea but it would definitely take something away from the experience for me.

Modern Science - Dead?
I think this is a good group to ask this question in. Most people here seem well read.
I majored in Zoology in college in the early nineties. Two great achievements of that time period were in gene sequencing efficiency and computer related items.
But... when was the last BIG discovery? I'm talking...

I've a netbook, but I bought mine with a free cd/dvd drive. I don't need to use it for much though, and It fits in my room on my desk which is only 15 inches. It's deffinatly harder to get used to but for me it works. I dont need to carry mine around so it wont fall. and its better ventilated. Mine has a big harddrive so its not so bad. It cost me about £300 in a sale.

Ive never used any software like that, and Ive never bought the same book twice. The again my book collection is in the hundreds not thousands.
But I have been in a bookstore and found a book in a series I like, but couldnt remember which books in that series I already had. I had to go home, look up what I had but when I got back to the bookstore a few days later it was already gone
