So when you go into go to join the wireless network are you using the same settings as your sons and it won't take it? The Airport ID? Do you mean the wireless network name with security setting you are trying to join?

That airport ID is the MAC address of you internal airport card. The only way to make that match is to install your sons airport card into your machine (if compatible) and then your machine will have his actual airport ID (unless you spoof the MAC address somehow). But regardless, that has no bearing on your connection. I would check the router for any MAC address filtering that may have been set up to allow only certain computers to connect....

Disk Warrior on X drive
Published (2009-11-29 19:19:00)
Have you booted your present iMac to that Disk Warrior CD? If the DW disk is older than your current iMac, it might not boot to that disk. In that case, you would simply use your iMac restore disks to install OS X on your external drive. When that's complete, you can just copy the Disk Warrior app from your DW disk to that external hard drive. Then you can boot to your external, and run DW from there to rebuild your internal hard drive.

Published (2009-11-28 03:50:00)
My Mom recently purchased an ibook g3 (700mhz 256mb of ram) running Mac os x 10.4.11 off ebay as a Christmas present for my sister and I checked for updates the first chance I got. It showed two updates, quicktime 7.6.4 and some security update labelled 2009-005. While these updates were downloading/installing I noticed iTunes was version 8 and so I told it to install 9.02 but nothing seemed to happen, so I decided I would just do that when...

When you open the MacBook, the internal display will again activate, leaving you with a dual-monitor setup again. It sounds like maybe you had the dual-displays configured in "mirrored" mode. You can change this by visiting the "Displays" pane of the System Preferences and selecting "extended desktop" mode. This will allow you to configure the resolutions of the screens independently, and...

Guys, this is an issue with Entourage Tasks & Categories and Apple Sync Services that is known and documented and not solved simply by any of the applications on the market. Please, I'm requesting replies from people who have implemented a solution that they use for syncing Entourage Tasks (& categories) with a Windows Mobile PDA or similar.

The last month it has been chinese IPs using gmail addresses for some reason, but sometimes it is Americans using hotmail, it is like their are spammer fashions!

If you have it formatted in Mac OS extended format and not in MSDOS format your best bet is going to be DiskWarrior.

When in Finder, go to the Finder drop down menu at the top. Then go to Preferences, once there go to the Sidebar. Under the category DEVICES, you will see Hard Disks with a box next to it, make sure it is checked and doesn't have a line through it or empty.

Sounds odd! Try formatting a cell somewhere else on the spreadsheet and using the format painter. Are you selecting a named area instead of a cell? Not sure this helps. Could be a bug.

You delete files that you don't need. Or offload large ones to an external hard disk. Or archive old ones that you don't need easy access to. Might want to use OmniDiskSweeper to see what's taking up space. Then we can help you with the next step.

You can add a size sort in a few seconds, by clicking a (+) and selecting what you need from the drop-downs, or choose 'other' in that drop-down for a large variety of other search criteria. Why would you need to show where a file is located? A simple smart folder will keep those files, regardless of their actual location. That's a useful trick from Spotlight. You can also command click on...

Instead of trying to clean up the previous owner's mess, why not simply use the Mac OS X Restore CD/DVD that was included with the computer to re-load the operating system (which wipes out any existing data and installs a clean, fresh and new copy of OS X), making the computer totally "yours?"

In order to get iTunes to add a tune to its library, I choose "Music" in the sidebar area, hit cmd-o to open the directory where the tune is, and click on that tune. The file is imported (or rather the information is - I prefer to have only the info in there) into the list of tunes, then I drag that item to the playlist where I want it to be accessed.
