Confirmed this happens to all our Thinkpad W500s Model # 40624GU. (About a dozen of them) With all the security and theft protection off in the BIOS, laptop still uses about 4% battery when off and unplugged.

Thanks for posting this...my W500 has the same issue and I have tried the same steps as you to fix it - no luck.  Looks like another Windows release that wasn't ready for prime time.  Come on Lenovo, theres no reason not to provide W500 users with a working video driver!  The cheap Lenovo G550s I bought for my daughters run Windows 7 just fine but no such luck with my $2000.00 W500 - pitiful.

My W700 screen has dim bottom corners, too, but because they're far from the centre of the screen and are often masked by the Windows taskbar, I seem to be able to live with them.

I am having the same problem.  I have tried changing all the power settings and turning things on/off in terms of power paradigms and nothing changes it.

I remember something about this from a few months ago,  It might be the fingerprint reader software is backlevel. Run TVSU and update that first, then udpate everything else.   Terry
