not to mention it is a really nice boat so as I am new to building boats, electronics, what would i need bare minimum? As after taking on a project of this size I'm going to want to get her in the water, yet my wife probably wont spring for all the luxury gadgets up front. Also I'm new to inboards are they difficult to install? could I substitute for a smaller tank as 90 gals might be a little to big as I dont plan on going out more...

Something has gone south for one of those to break, if thats what it is. Carefully inspect the transom, better yet have someone with an experienced eye look.

The double eagle you linked too seems like a good fit for your needs/wants. Also, I don't think you will find any other designers that can offer you detail and support that Glen-L does. Read through thier forums and webletter archives, just about every possible problem/topic is covered. With that said there is one more you might want to look into. It is the Surf Scoter (there are several lenghts) by devlin. Scroll down to the...

the surf scooter 26 would be perfect. people chartering want a little comfort also, the 102 hp Volvo would get you the fishing grounds quick enough, the boat will ride very well, enough room in cabin for people to get out of the weather. the boat is very trailerable. you could get a 6 pack license with that boat, which is the minimum license you will have to have to charter anyway.

The older Diesels like your 12 valve and the 6.5 were designed and built around older proven diesel designs. The new engines are just that, new designs, almost experimental, allways evolving. Just like microsoft they release a new OS then develop it while it's in the market. The big problem these days is the big 3 are on the ropes, no money so they have been cutting corners again. Last time gm was in trouble all the paint fell of thier...

No, because when I built it I balanced the weight by putting 2 batteries on the port side- a small one at the stern and a larger tractor battery (for the trolling motor) in front of the center bench. Actually, my biggest problem was getting enough weight forward. She wanted to squat at the stern and wouldn't get quickly on plane. The trolling motor and battery helped, but I found the best solution was to keep the anchor and spare 6 gallon...

Hi There. Yesterday I purchased a 1971 24' Reinell cabin cruiser for $800 on a caukins trailer. The motor is a Mercruiser 165 straight 6.Everythingis actually in good shape and appears to be complete. I would like to make some modifications to it,i.e add baitwell and fish boxes, rod holders, downriggers, Alaskan bulkhead. I need to re-wire the thing and the outdrive has some issues. I noticed ...

Picked up a new project and even though its a 100% fresh water boat the previous owner used anti-fouling paint on the hull. Can you say mud fence ugly? Sooo... are there strippers that will remove this gunk or is it down to old fashioned sanding? Some one please tell me there is a better way!

I finally got it done! I have been working towards this for a long time. Finally things came together. Here is how things went. First I set the gantry to height. It is a scary 12 feet from the ground to the beam! After removing the canopy, un-bolting everything and rigging the leveler and chain fall, I started to lift it out. I made sure the gantry was level. It took the weight with...

Friend of a friend asked me to look at his boat (1987 22' tri hull O/B) as he said it is not tracking properly in the water. He told me it has not been right since installing a new 250 HP Merc O/B this last spring. I assumed (dangerous I know) that the engine had not been installed properly and was causing the problem. However, a tape measure and some cross measurements says it is mounted ...

My first project is a 14' Espadon boat (made by Peterborough I think). I have stripped out the old wooden bench seats and floor that the previous owner had put in and fixed up a couple of holes/cracks. Next up is building a replacement bench for the middle. The original construction had 6 braces riveted to the hull. You can see 3 of them in the picture. Two on the curve of the hull and ...

I just purchased this boat and noticed that inside the bildge area there are 2 fiberglass braces on either side of the motor mount area. One of them has a break in the glass. Quick question about flotation foam. I know that it is required in all boats under 20 foot. My boat is 19 so its required. and i know how much is some math equation that related to how much your boat and cargo weigh. What i am asking is does floatation floam effect how the boat sits in the water or is it just incase the boat was to take on water or capsize. here is why i am asking.. on my ...

I am rebuilding my 18' Starcraft aluminum boat. After ripping off the old rotted flooring I noticed that all of the Styrofoam sheets that Starcraft used under the flooring were saturated with water. No doubt the water soaked floatation under the flooring contributed heavily to the rotting of the floor. Besides, I am positive the Styrofoam wouldn't float anyway it was so water-logged! My...
