This is dragging the conversation of Sherman as a "lunatic pyromaniac" to a thread where it belongs. Anyone who has proof that he was, please show it.

Just in case anyone's interested (I was there last month and was very impressed. This review was published today.): http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/25/ar...ts&oref=slo gin Putting it here rather than the Gettysburg forum because it's the museum is as much about the war as a whole as about Gettysburg. Incidentally, having visited Gettysburg a few times, Antietam at least twice, Bull Run...

I am interested in the historical novels by shelby foote. I would like to know what opinions some of the pros here have on these books. If this is the wrong board forgive me.... Just wondering if anyone here has any reference and what they think about the authenticity of these books. A good place to start or no.... Any advice is welcome. Thanks. I am well aware of 'the facts...

I am not very knowledgable about the cannons. Would someone please put the list down. I'd like to know their ranges and the ammunition they used. Which one would you choose?

It's been awhile since we had a battle of the month. For the newbies, we had a tradition for awhile of looking at one battle each month (generally a battle fought that month) and discussing it as a way to examine some of the lesser-known or discussed battles. We haven't done it for a couple months, so since it is October 1, I thought I would bring it around again. Ladies and Gentlemen, ...

If you could choose to pick one in each of the four categories of firearms, which would you choose? If there are more firearms that I haven't listed, please list them on here. You can mention to have a brass telescopic sight installed if you want. 1.) 69 caliber musket 1816 US Springfield musket 1842 US Springfield musket 1842 US Springfield rifled musket 1842 SC "Palmetto" musket 2.) ...

I have two interesting and rare relics worth mentioning that I have purchased over the years, both are eagle breast plates and both have been stuck by bullets. The first dug plate was struck by a bullet which left a ripping hole leaving only about 80% of the plate remaining. I purchased this from a local man that had detected it at the Dunker Church. The second non-dug plate was found at an ...

8th MN Infantry the "Indian regiment" because instead of the more well know huzzah as given by Union troops they had a tendency to let loose w/ indian war hoops... which had a tendency to scare the ever living bejezees out of both rebs and neighboring Union regiments...

I've just read this in a letter of a Confederate surgeon, written April 5, 1863: "I do not believe we shall have so severe a campaign this spring and summer as we had last year, but I am more than willing to endure all the hardships again to be as victorious as we were then. You need have no apprehension that this army will ever meet with defeat while commanded by General Lee. ...

I've been meaning to ask this for a while now but I kept putting it off. What did the Confederates do with the Union Battle Flags that they captured during the war?

I guess I could just call and ask but I thought I'd throw this question to the experts here. I have seen several cartridge boxes that have had their front flaps cut off over the years, all being battlefield pick-ups. I always assumed that this was done to have faster access to cartridges by not having to lift two flaps as opposed to one in the heat of battle. I never thought this was just a ...
