I"ll add my 2 cents on the SD also. I have a cat that if you feed him any other cat food (at least the ones I"ve tried) he has diarrhea and ends up on an antibiotic to clear it up. He's been on ID for years and has done fine. When I was told I had to bring him in for a checkup and yearly shots or they would not give him anymore food I switched him to RAW and will never, ever give him commercial food again. However, the ID did...

Hope the pup is okay now. W/D is not bad food. It is not the best food either, but it does what it was intended to do, get things moving through the digestive tract. That last can will not hurt your pup. I would not feed regular SD either but the prescription diets have a specific purpose and are beneficial for certain things.

Update: Scout seems to be doing better. Pooping is still uncomfortable for her but she isn't screaming. She is back to wanting to play with her sister. We were going to bring Scout to the new vet but since we just took her in for the bone incident, we brought in her sister, Ranger, a Golden Retriever mix. We did discuss Scout with the Dr. and all the meds and food she was given. Both pups have never had great poop so he tested Ranger for...

Lisa, When I had a foster dog with kennel cough (and a runny nose) I used Homeopet's Nose Relief and it worked well. If you want to steam him then I recommend tea tree oil. It's amazing.

Good evening all I am feeling a wee bit of cautious optimism this evening I have managed to get two good meals into Willson today. I mixed his kibble with a good canned puppy chicken in gravy and added a cup of 5% probiotic yogurt (the other dogs are so jealous!). The change in him is nice to see. Does anyone know how long it takes to see results from the Ketoconazole? I just have a feeling that we may have turned a corner this aftermoon. I...

and please .... let that be the ONLY can of Science Diet she ever gets. Not only do find that kind of stuff you mentioned in some vet's offices ... they sell things foods like Science Diet and Iams ... both of which get big fat F's in the food grading category and use toxins/poisons as preservatives.

Watch for dehydration. That's an important one. (I wouldn't withhold water.) That's one thing. Watch the temperature is another (digital thermoms are great.)

That is great information. does anyone know, does the stomach bloat up first and then twist from being full of air or does it twist first then fill with air from being twisted and shut off from the body ? The poor guy two dogs, scarey.

Ouch - poor guy! What type of diet is he on now? Seems odd that it's only on one side of his body.

This happened to Grace once...not sure why...she actually had to be sedated
to have them cleaned out. Not fun! The antibiotics did the trick and we've
never had that problem again...

I'm still pretty new at it, though Baron was diagnosed in March. still learning, but I would help any way I can. It always helps to have people to talk with when our babies are sick

But in the meantime, really push the water drinking, that should help and then have a look at the other things in the link for what might be appropriate for her symptoms...

Pale white gums - you need to go to the vet ASAP. White gums can be a sign of bloat stage 3. There are other symptoms as well...but go to the vet now. Don't wait. My first Cotton was rushed to the vet when his gums went white and he got weak.....it wasn't bloat - but he was highly dehydrated....come to find out cancer...they could have fixed the bloat they said. Please go to the vet.

I can''t see them just big red X here but I am sure they are great!! Especially if the vet says so! I will look at them tonight. I was thinking about you the other day. Did I miss Christmas pictures of your two this year? As I am over here I sometimes miss stuff and I can't see pictures until I get home at night on my own laptop so I may have missed them. They always make me smile.

Oh the poor thing! Our Yorkie got a broken jaw jumping off the bench AT the vet's office. He was like 12 years old at the time. We did the tape thing, too and I was very sorry we didn't have surgery to fix it. His jaw was never the same again, always weak and he had kind of a droop on one side. Being this is a pup I would get another opinion because he's got a very long life ahead of him if it ...

You can give them decongestants and you can give an expectorant. (You can use the ones for kids) Also maybe a nasal spray _ they have the ones only with saline to clean the nose. Have you tried an antihistamine? I put emu or coconut oil in Rainer's nose when it got gunky to keep it from getting so raw.

Has he been tested for EPI? I'm not that familiar with it but I'm thinking vomiting up food is one of the signs. I'm sure others here will know more.

I have always looked at what is covered, figured the monthly cost per aninimal and decided it would be cheaper and I would be money ahead if I just put it in a savings account. Unless the policies are better now, not much is covered. Just what I have always done.
