I use Google's Picasa Web albums to upload pics to an album and then email a link to it. Each uploaded photo in the album can be downloaded full size by the recipient . Also, it is not required to use Picasa software to upload your photos, even though they try and push it on you. You can load images five at a time directly from your hard drive without special software. I am not a professional, so I have never had to purchase extra space....

So what is your question? With your "old" PCs, getting broadband will NOT increase your PC performance. If you download, it will increase download speed to get files. edited by plodr: removed unhelpful comment.

Upgrading RAM in a Dell...

Quote: What if I'd go for the 256 mb? Don't waste your money just to inch up to 512MB. XP with SP3 runs well on 1GB. Case: someone I help has a Dell on a fast cable internet connection. It chokes with only 256MB of RAM. Unfortunately, her Dell uses RAMBUS memory which is extremely expensive. I told her it wasn't worth spending the money to buy 1 GB so she just bought a Win 7 computer. I don't think 512MB would offer much...

Now go to another website, hold the windows key and hit the key going to the left. You should now have both...

Upgrading RAM in a Dell...

Uh, I'd appreciate if someone can advise re: my Nov. 26 questions above. Also note: I should have mentioned previously that besides my desktop, i also have an X31 thinkpad (which I'd bought refurb. a couple years ago, with a HD about to probably die on me).. ...anyway, it has 1gb RAM, and I don't really find it much faster than my desktop system. After all, I use the same dialup with both my low RAM desktop and my 1gb RAM...

I actually tried another USB wireless adapter and I got the same result. I thought at first it was the laptop, but I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on it and it worked fine no problems. I then went ahead and put on Vista and it all runs fine.

Thanks, I really appreciate ya'lls help. Family coming over today and I have no way of watching a movie with them from my collection of hundreds of h264 movies, most that will probably never get watched since they may be replaced with better ones before we will ever get around to watching (20 minutes and we fall asleep). I probably will buy the sabrent from amazon--unless I find a better solution. I think the most secure way would be to...

I do not think that 7 is more difficult to use than Vista, but there is a learning curve. Because of the problems that people are having installing W7, freezes, endless loops, failure to install and BSOD, I have to agree with you. If the install process were a bit easier, not having such a time consuming clean install (time needed to reinstall all programs), I think that I would recommend W7, ...

You can use Vista, forever. In about 4 or 5 years, (the exact schedule can be obtained from the MS site) they will stop offering all support, except for security updates.
I could still use my Windows 98, if my computer did not die.
In any event a Happy Thanksgiving to you. _________________ Richard

Here is a $35 solution, since you will need a converter box to do what you want.
