Much has been spoken about self defense with various types of edged weaponry. I cannot recall however, reading any threads about palm sticks. I personally like them. This is for a number of reasons. They pack have a lot of stopping power.Take the carabao horn palm stick, which has some very pointed edges.A light hit from one of these is enough to cause considerable pain, whereas a full power strike...

It looks increasingly likely that if my next intervie goes well, that I will be stuck in SA for three weeks or so, staring at the inside of my hotel room with no laptop or car. There's a TKA group, but i'm not sure how often they train, and I get the feeling I'll want to kill a lot of hours. What FMA groups are there in SA(or i guess MA in general that don't break the bank)

Okay this can be the FMA foot work thread where you can compare and contrast how you utilize your systems foot work methods. Do you use triangle footwork or a larger triangle/circular Dekiti style of footwork? Or do you employ something totally different (boxing, V, circular, linear, etc.) Here are a few questions? Compare and Contrast Dekiti Tirsia Siradas footwork and how it is ...

This is an example of one the few pure filipino martial arts. Bultong or Boltong - Ifugao Wrestling. The Ifugao are one of the 3 headhunting tribes of Northern Luzon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k87o8pOOy2U Vince

Hi. I got to see an open style full contact tournament recently and I noticed that some competitors (men's div), after an initial exchange of strikes would sort of "body slam" and wave their arms about until the referee tells them to separate. One pair of arms would be about waist level and the other pair would be overhead. Can anyone tell me what this is for, exactly? I don't know what ...

Does anyone know anything about Master Julius Meligrito and his Philippine Martial Arts Alliance? I have read some articles about him in Black Belt Magazine and was discussing him with some other MA friends of mine and was curious to find out if anyone has trained with him.

Hey all, Was looking around on the web and came accross a post in another forum that draws upon a personal account/manuscript of the battle of Mactan. An interesting read! The following account is from Charles E. Nowell Ed, Magellan's Voyage Around the World: Three Contemporary Accounts (Northwestern University Press, Evanston Ill, 1962), pp. 168-173. Nowell used a 1906 translation of ...

With the recent addition of the Derobio Escrima forum (Congrats) and with Professor Lee (Welcome) from the Tobosa system I thought I would start a thread to share some articles from the local Newspaper about the FMA in Hawaii. http://www.midweek.com/extra/extra.html Out Of The Shadows By Dan Martin You’ve got to earn Mike del Mar’s trust.
