In case anyone is still wondering - 10.6.2 fixed the problem where Flash would make the new iMacs dog slow. Apparently it was a conflict between the airport driver and Flash. More info: Apple fixes AirPort problems marring video playback on 27-inch iMacs | Crave - CNET

I actually don't believe that either side is intending to insult the other here. Discussions of software sales almost always bring up comments about authenticity, and even when it's clearly stated and meant "we're not talking about this particular post/sale etc ." the seller is going to feel imbued with negativity. Similarly, when an unusual post brings on responses of incredulity the poster is going to write...

PowerBook durability

My Key Lime iBook from 2000 still running perfectly - just under 10 years - all original except battery. I had a TiBook from year 2001 that is still running in the hands of a grad student. My original core Duo MacBook Pro 15 is still running fine as a road recording machine for my son's band. It depends on luck and care and idiosyncrasies of the model how long a machine will last. Buying used make it hard to quantify the 'care'...

Warranty information is usually submitted via an https page - so is encrypted and secure. I wouldn't expend much time worrying about that - it's generally information that is readily available anyway (name, address, phone number) - it's not as if they ask you for bank info, your credit card numbers or your SIN! Fraud and identity theft are not likely to occur from warranty registration. The internet doesn't even need to be...

Is the upgrade from i5 TO I7 worth it? For the Imacs, It's ether get an I7 and stick with 4 gigs of ram or get 8 gigs of ram and go with an I5. My budget will not allow me to do both. What should I do?

Personally I hate all in ones. Epson has long had an issue with print heads clogging. Especially so if you don't run very many prints. I got a "free" Lexmark with my eMac lasted about 6 months. When it came time to replace the ultra expensive cartridges I bought a Canon i850 which is still going strong although Canon never did come up with an OS X print driver that would do banner ...

It's elegant, sleek and stylish. It lacks the clutter of a conventional desktop and is perfect for most home users because it has all the power all but professional power users need. The styling is the reason that more TV shows and Movies have Macs in the background than any other brand; it simply looks good. The ports and such on the side and back only add to it's overall design element ...

Not really, although I don't think it's really necessary. You can see your apps (and much more) in the Apple menu. It's the old Apple Menu habits I have which are one of the reason why I keep my OSX dock on the left side. You can use the Control Strip, and move it anywhere along the left or right side, including very low left or right, so that it opens across the bottom like an OSX ...

As a matter of fact, they had some in the Reston, VA store this morning. I stopped in there to pick up a magic mouse and the SL/iLife/iWork box set for the family. I didn't actually pick it up and look at it though - sorry. Incidentally, if anyone is coming down to the D.C. area anytime soon, the Tyson's Mall store in Tyson's Corner, VA is closed until the 21st.

It's just proprietary market engineering. Apple says that the absolute cheapest you can run OSX is $1000 on a portable computer, then people who want to run a mac will pay $1000. If you have people doing it on $250 computers with ease, then people will not be willing to pay $1000 to run OSX anymore. Heck, I'm considering a hacked netbook!

The short answer is...you don't. And neither does Apple. I don't know how Apple treats telephone support for software, as I've never used it. I've always been able to find the answers to my problems here, at Techsurvivors.net and at the Apple forums. Apple offers support for 90 days after purchase, but that would no doubt be from an authorized dealer, not someone who is reselling ...

I can't say I'm that surprised, for an Apple store I've definitely noticed the Ottawa store's customer service is somewhat lacking, they seem to be understaffed.
