It succeeds in making the VCI-300 look overpriced.

The APC is great, but I'm going for a launchpad and a UC-33e. Cheaper and I like longer faders, and knobs. You can also check out the Livid ohm, expensive but sexy.

But you limit yourself in what you can do in Ableton. If you're just putting in a start point and maybe a few loops you might as well use a DVS. They're better suited for that kind of thing.

I didnt read all the responses, but in my experience you'll never get VDJ to respond like you want it. Also, in my experiance Traktor > Serato for gnarly scratching. But really man, if your going to be beat juggling, get REAL VINYL . ALL the DVS's are just going to piss you off and f-up your beat juggling, no joke. Buy this shit: http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32254 My fav's are Super Seal Vinyl, Jawa...

If you have no idea what the software is even called, none-the-less how to
use it or what the controller does for you, then you need to do some
research before you go all Patrick Bateman and drop cash on stuff you don't
know what to do with.

It supports midi, so you can use it in anything that supports midi, which would be ableton or just abut any audio app these days. Your still going to have to map it by hand though just like any other controller that doesnt have a map built into ableton.
It doesnt have a crossfader on it, so if you wanted to use it as one you would have to map one of the knobs to the ableton/traktor crossfader...

Traktor just came out with a new controller that would be perfect for you, the Kontrol x-1 or something like that. It's like $229 and probably will be a little cheaper in stores when it comes out. Personally I would rather use something with more buttons and such, but that's just me. My ideal controller would be the APC 40, as I love buttons (it's overkill but probably the best solution for me, I...

Normally I would have said M-Audio X-Sessions.
But I am boycotting M-Audio and every single one of their shitty, toy-like, poorly built, pieces of shit they call products. Do not ever buy anything from them. IT WILL BREAK A LOT SOONER THAN YOU THINK!!!!
Best of luck tho.
