My buddy just bought one and we're gonna be setting up a custom mapping for him tonight over beers and perhaps some pasta. I sold my VCI-100 some time ago but now I'm hankering for another jog-equipped controller....if I like it I know what I'll be lining up for this weekend.

What direction are you looking to go? Real DJ hardware, such as turntables and mixer or Digital DJ hardware, such as laptop + sound card + midi controller? First go and visit Native Instruments and Serato web sites for more info and setup type. Their sites have pictures of possibel configurations with their software. For a simple digital DJ experience, any Windows Laptop + Numark Omni Control. This will wet your feet at a low cost. Got money?...

Don't think this is true. All it is, is a stripped down version of the
original software. The main limitation is that you won't be able to use
timecodes with that software. You's need to upgrade to the professional
version. (6.X)

You would need the Audio 8 Dj since it is the only one with Midi in/out to
use it with the DDM4000.

I noticed that after I upgraded to the newest version of serato that Itch
would no longer keep the correct or any kind of history. This is a problem
as I use both programs frequently durring the same week and like to check
my history.

Well, SSL will only work with SSL-branded Rane hardware (SL-1, SL-3, TTM-57, MP4). The big three: SSL, Traktor, and Torq, require proprietary interfaces.
There are some that can use any interface: Virtual DJ, Mixvibes, Ms. Pinky, Decadance.

Depends on your specs. XP won't support certain amounts of RAM.

It probably won't be relevant for DJs because I can't see many audio app
developers coding for it unless it really takes off in higher powered
platforms.

in absolute mode you're using the serato vinyl as an actual piece of vinyl. Wherever you drop the needle on the record is the time it's going to play in scratch live.
You can only use cue points and loops in relative mode. That being said, I use relative mode with the Seraro vinyl almost exclusively.

The x500 and x900 are both really solid mixers.
Personally I like my NS7 for parties, as far as "all-in- one-ness" goes. Have you fucked with that or a vci-300?

That is strange I dont know why it would say its disconnected, maybe the usb plug is broken?
The crossfader volume can be changed. On the front under the lip there are two twist knobs, one is for the crossfader. You can twist to either side to change the fade to how you want it. I think thats what you were asking right?
