Thanks for all of the info. This is foreign territory for me so any additional help (besides reading for myself) I can get is appreciated. Keep it coming

We've done both in August, and DL is not nearly as humid as WDW in my opinion (I have also done both in September, April and June and find this to be the case). I agree with ILoveJack and DVC2004, that the crowds at Disneyland were incredible (because it's a local day park, as well as a vacation destination), but they were not over at California Adventure (which we LOVED).

After reading this other post about staying in Alexandria, I was reminded that our hotel also had a free continental breakfast each day and the shuttle was free (although I believe a tip is expected from the driver). Additionally, they offered 1 bedroom suites and studios.

My daughter loves Universal...and the wildest ride she will consider is ET. And she's 10. I LOVE the Mummy. But I would NOT put a kid on it unless they have some tolerance for rides. It's frightening. I held hands with a total stranger (hey he wanted someone's hand to hold too - he asked me!!!) and I am NOT a hot babe! The Royal Pacific is my FAVORITE hotel any where. It's gorgeous. The service is wonderful.

Also, I don't know your girls ages but there is also Legoland and Knotts Berry that I've heard rave reviews about...but they aren't included in the pass.

Keep in mind, some of the rooms at Old Faithful Inn have no bathrooms. They are located down the hall and you share facilities. If you are shy, make sure to get a room with a bathroom. There are also cabins available in each area. They are cheap, but very basic.

As it's a Friday afternoon and I don't feel like working I uploaded some of my pictures. Here's where you can find them. http://2007yellowstone.shutterfly.com/ In my trip report I also left out the day we hiked Mt. Washburn. It took 6 hours to do but it was well worth it. I don't know how I forgot that. Another tip we got from the rangers was to go out early in the day to see some of the animals. We saw the grizzly bear at...

I visited in the winter a few years ago. The roads are closed; all transportation was by snow cats -- either big monsters that were like troop transports on treads, or modified vans on treads. OFI was closed, so I stayed at the OF Snow Lodge. It was a very comfortable modern motel with indoor corridors and good food. It doesn't have the views of OFI, but Old Faithful and the surrounding geyser basin are within easy walking distance. The...

The Holiday Inn Capital 650 C Street Southwest (near Maryland Ave SW and 6th St SW) is a great location. I have gone there a few times for work and then chose it for a family trip. It is a block or so away from the Mall near the Air & Space Musuem. I felt the room rates were more reasonable than some other hotels in DC

My first choice would be Old Faithful Inn, second choice would be Canyon. Check out the "travelyellowstone" site for availability.
It takes at least four days to cover the main sites in Yellowstone, it is a very big park and lots more driving than Grand Canyon.
Take a few short hikes, well worth the effort.
The drive from SLC is easy. You can take I-15 to the town of West Yellowstone, or...

If I remember correctly, it's an overlay of the Wild Arctic attraction, so
there wasn't any additional cost for the attraction.

I don't know the actual date, but if you go on their website and click Travel Tools (at the top), it should tell you there.
I've never cruised to Alaska, but have been on several carribbean cruises. We love them! Have a great time!

Well, I've been to both but not in August and it's been several years since I went to DL, but I do know that it's much smaller than WDW, the air quality is ALOT less (if that matters to you) and the people are not so nice in CA as they are in FL.
Now, I did visit the Monterey coast area in 2007 and it was truelly beautiful and the temps stay at 60 to 70 year round, there is also a Six ...

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn across the street from Universal. It was very nice, much better than what you would expect from a Fairfield. They also have a free hot breakfast.
I am not so sure that there is much for girls at Universal Studios. Most things are scary for kids that age---Twister, Earthquake, Mummy, Jaws, Terminator. They will like Jimmy Neutron, Shrek, Men in Black. (avoid ...

Take a look at "Somebody talk me into Universal" and " Universal Studio first time please help Plan" threads below. These may help you plan your days. Universal also has a nice web site where you can view short clips of some of the attractions.
Please let us know how you like the HRH when you get back. Have a great trip!

Not sure where to tell you in town that isn't expensive.
Consider staying anywhere along the metro RED line and then taking the train into the city. It's a fun ride, clean and convenient. You also won't pay in DC prices. Bethesda, White Flint, Rockville, Shady Grove - all those stops and more in Montgomery County MD. From the end of the line at shady grove, you are about a 35-40 ...
