I think you'll always be able to get more speed out of a desktop than a laptop. You can install a RAID array to greatly increase your disk throughput. Memory bandwidth will also be superior on the desktop. I made the move to laptop-centric computing for home use many years ago, but I still sometimes miss the perks of a desktop -- more internal disk, more and larger displays, more potential...

Any opinions on this App? Just got a Mac Pro and Pro Tools HD. Protool's recommends disabling Spotlight, and someone recommended Easy Find. Just curious what you folks think.

I have a friend who wants to replace an older IMac G3 with something a little better. She has $500 maximum to spend. I am posting this because I have never purchased a used machine and have no experience with them. I think she is counting on me to help her. All I know to do is check ebay and that seems a bit scary to me to buy an unknown machine from a stranger. There is no one locally here ...

I did a little checking on line and found a listing which says that the 6gb compatibility extends back further then just the latest models. [ db.tidbits.com ] Anyone have experience wth this? My macbook pro meets the number test and I could use the extra ram for those video files. Just asking....

These files mostly just require a price change but if there is a way of editing a pdf like a regular text file I'd love to know how. I can open it in Illustrator but if the lines of text are always broken up. Is there something I don't know? I can copy the blocks of text ...

Are warranty replacement batteries less long lasting than the originals they replaced? I need a replacement for my replacement which lasted half as long as the original. Where can I get a new genuine Apple replacement for less than list price of over $120? Are there new alternatives available that are as good or better .. and cheaper, too? Powerbook 12" G-4 notebook

Would some crafty "Open Office" users care to comment on their experiences including use of X11 windows enabler on a Mac? I have been using it to read customer's Windows Excel spreadsheets emailed to me as attachments Seems OK. Any issues I should know about before going forward? For example, every once in a while I click to open an Excel attachment that I previously saved to my...
