Forum Outage
Published (2009-11-13 15:48:00)
An Update: Internet Brands has had system-wide degradation since yesterday which has affected the speed and access to this forum, as well as our CruiseReviews website. In fact the entire IB empire of websites has been crippled. Obviously they've been working on it non-stop but the bugs appear hard to track down and fix.

Thank you for the warning velvet66203. Macmom is right, you need to tell the BBB and probably the Florida Tourist Bureau.

Serenade of the Seas has it. Didn't go. You can book ahead of time or wait until you get on board. It's $49.50 pp.

Re-evaluating auto tipping...
Published (2009-11-10 15:18:00)
The cruise lines have "CREATIVE CONVERSION RATES" for those that pay in other currencies One cruise for us to pay in CAD the conversion rate was about 20% more than the daily bank rate... some cruise lines even Canadians cannot book with a US agent or direct we must go through the wholesaler I think in the U.K. they also do not get their deposit back if they cancel even before final payment ...they must claim it through insurance

The London TimesOnline has published an article indicating increasing displeasure on the part of passengers with cruise lines' automatic tipping policy. Read the interesting article here.

Maybe there's something about the fees involved and difference in currency too.

You might want to report this to the better business bureau. Not everyone uses the chats and the bureau will make a note of the problems.

Thank you Dave, always better to ask. I played with my settings to no avail. Will wait for the fix.

Very interesting article. I like the auto-tip, but add extra when the service calls for it. If the cruise lines increase the fares to cover the tips, how would we make sure they actually went to the crew?

I use this one. It is perhaps the best I've found. Looks like Grand Cayman will be crowded on February 18, with over 13,000 passengers. But still not as bad as February 9 when over 19,000 will be there.

I know that the Ncl, Jewel, Star and Pearl have them. The plot was the same on two of the ships; we went along for the fun of it though. My wife read it in the freestyle daily and just went and signed up, in the library I think.

It depends on what you mean by "prebooking on your own". Do you mean through the cruise line or truly on your own (private tours) Booking through the cruise line- Waiting until you are on the ship you run the risk of not getting on the tour you want. If there is something you "have to do" then book it. If the weather is so bad they cancel you get your money back. If you don't have any idea ...

I always purchase my excursions before I cruise and I do it thru the Cruise Line, I have never had a problem I also call them to make my payments. I always like to book way ahead and have everything paid for before we go, so I would not worry at all. I for any reason the excursion is cancelled you will be refunded as well.

There is a big discussion on trip advisor in the Miami forum They seem to be operating under other names as well. If you made your payment to the TA & NOT to the cruise line for a promised discount or OBC you may be out of luck.
