Quote When you say " Figure your sts/in and look at the schematic for the patterns to see how many inches your pieces need for the size you want and go with the size closest to that number of stitches.", should I go for the size closest to number of stitches on the CHUNKY yarn?  I don't understand what you mean here, sorry! Yes, find the size with a stitch number close to what you get with the yarn and...

Slouchy hats "in"?
Published (2008-11-19 08:32:00)
This is what I thought...  I was having visions of Mary Tyler Moore dancing in my head.      I just made the mistake of reading a blog that talked about how trendy these things were, and that next season they'd be out.  Like I said, I'm not big on whether something I wear is "in" or "out"...but I am well aware that my perception of something can...

Knitting Machines: how do I find...

Well, I only ask about the USM because I figure it would be a good beginner machine? The more research I do, the more... Hm. Most machines can't do ribbing, can they? And almost none can do both purl and knit stitches in the same row... Punchcard machines are used to make color-change patterns, right? Oh, and I agree about thick yarn, it hates me too. I crocheted a teddy bear with a thick boucle once, and... Well, it was poofy and...

hah, okay, so i'm learning with the pair of needles i made (just inbetween size 8 and 7), and just to practice i cast on 10 lines, which is about 2 inches on these guys with my yarn i'd rather not waste the little patch of fabric i've made, so i'm still adding on to it (its about two inches long now), and i have no clue what i could do with it it would make a realllly skinny scarf, and unless i made it...

So, I'm known to take up tons of hobbies and crafts, and people in my dorm hall don't even consider it odd when i point out something else in my room was made by myself. For a while now, I've been considering taking up knitting, and I've finally gone out and done it. Yesterday I bought some yarn and made a pair of needles (.60 cent wooden dowel versus actually buying needles? No ...

This is a very silly topic, but I'm genuinely curious... I really want to knit Le Slouch, but due to some financial issues (which we're all having, I'm sure!), it may not be done until it's too late to wear it this year. I live in Louisiana, anyway, so it's usually a very short cold season. So my unbearably goofy question is: are slouchy hats here to stay, or will they look silly in...

I'm attempting my first sweater and I have found 2 patterns that I would love to knit up. My question is. What should I do when I want to change the actual stitch? I have a book on knitting stitches and I'd like to substitute one of them instead of using the suggested stitch. How can I transition this successfully? Also, I want to use chunkier yarn to make it more bulky. How can I...

Hello, The knitty fall is out and i want to knit Versatility. But I don't exactly understand the pattern. I have absolutely no idea what to do with the optional panel. Is it supposed to be on top of the scarf, or on the sides? I have absolutely no idea what to do with it. Can anyone help me out? Thankx

I'm working on the Debbie Bliss seed stitch shoes in one of her books (I can't remember which exact one), and I have the following instruction: "inc last st on next and every foll alt row." For the 1st part I've to do this to increase from 22 to 32 stitches. Help!!! I can't figure this one out. I looked at the picture and it looks like it's one increase for every consecutive row. .....

I'm really not much of a knitter, but this is the perfect forum for this. Has anybody else seen this? http://www.style-files.com/2006/12/09/christien-me indertmas-giant-knitwork/ Those knitting needles are like curtain rods ... but with points. I'm slow enough with what I have, thank you, but I really admire the stick-to-it that something like this must take.

So, I realize on the knitting board this may be blasphemous, but I need to seriously get rid of most of my stash and I am not looking to do so by knitting it! Ok ya'll, I'm diving into a territory that I know nothing about. I limit myself to the sewing forums so excuse me if I sound naive. A lady came into work with the cutest sweater/bolero/shrug that looks somewhat easy to make. Trouble is I don't know what to look for, not knowing anything about yarn and such. I will post as many picture examples as I can find. She was nice enough to let ...

Please forgive this very stupid question, I *JUST* am learning to knit, and am in the process of making my 1st scarf. I am about 40% done, and looked down and noticed the yarn coming out of the skein had a knot connecting what I guess would be 2 different strands of yarn. I continued to knit away, only to have this knot come undone and wreak havoc on my progress. I fixed it the best ...

Has anyone seen something called a Knifty Knitter Straw Loom ? I don't usually visit Joann's but they sent me a 40% coupon code and happened to catch me in an "oh woe is me, I deserve a present" mood , and looking at their website I saw this product. It doesn't look at all like the KK looms. What it actually looks like is a Pan flute, only with the "reeds" all the same length, ...

So I thought this was an interesting story that fellow Craftsters would find amusing. I went to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight on opening night (if you haven't seen it yet do so now, put down your knitting needles and grab your keys this very moment).
