type the date before the first day of the month into a cell example for noverber type in 31/10/2009 noe format the cell as a number and you will get excel's value for that date example 40117 now leave a colum for you to enter the date without the month or year, and set the colour to white so you can't see the contents of the cell example in cell E6 just enter 23 in the date colum cell enter the number plus the cell example in cell F6...

Weirdest Tech problem ever!
Published (2009-11-30 11:46:00)
It sounds like part of your problem is your bootloader being on the old disk - which you could repair by booting off the DVD and using the "repair my computer" options (either the automatic repair or manually via the recovery console). However, not booting from the DVD sounds like it may be a BIOS issue. Check your BIOS config and make sure the optical drive is enabled, and try booting the machine with neither HDD attached...

Have a weird problem, it's nothing serious and I'm not even that bothered but I'm curious why it's happening. The icon of Malwarebytes Anti Malware sometimes goes blank. (MBAM) Like this,

Right click not working.
Published (2009-12-01 12:34:00)
Just reinstalled the drivers there and no joy. All the other mouse buttons work fine and if I assign the "right click" function to another of the mouse buttons using the "Microsoft Mouse" application (it's a Microsoft mouse), nothing happens. i.e. I apply new settings and they are displayed as being changed but the mouse behaves as before. Upon closing and re-opening the application it has reverted to...

As already mentioned, you can disable UAC to return security to XP levels but this can leave the system wide open to malware. Just be careful if you go down that road, keep away from dodgy websites. It was the application compatibility toolkit that you saw me demoing. Make sure you check out the database to see if there's already a shim for your app(s). I'll hopefully be organising a Windows User Group event on the subject in the new year.

Did the other mouse work in the PC? It sounds like a driver issue, you could try installing the drivers again or even get another type mouse and install the drivers for that.

I wouldn't try and backport an unsupported browser onto an OS; your better bet might be to use a virtual machine. If it's Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate on your dad's machine, you can use Windows XP Mode (see here for details). Alternatively you may be able to install Virtual PC 2007 and manually set up a virtual machine with Windows XP/Vista and IE7 for him to use (though you'll need to ...

From your example, you presumably want to exclude joiner words such as "is, as, the, on, an, it", etc from being capitalised? Easy enough for a perl script to do. You could hack some vbscript together to do it as well. This may help: http://www.antp.be/software/renamer/

Format the disk and reinstall xp from scratch. You could create a Data partition on the disk and copy all your files that you want to keep in there. You should download all the drivers your laptop will need before doing anything though, it'll save any headaches after installing xp.
