ah but that "rate my teacher" lark was a whole joke. Its almost human nature to only complain about someone/something so that website gave students a carte blanche (sp). People are so much slower to compliement good service. Also, I'll bet it was never parents who were rating teachers on the site so wouldn't really recommend worrying too much about teenagers teacher bashing. It's terrible to read negatives...

New teachers often seem to get this,I'd ask to meet the parents and try to resolve the issue. They should have gone to you in the first place, you are ,after all, the class teacher!

I really do think that the good will is running out. People are going to think twice about training teams, organising choirs, plays, drama etc. I can see it going down the line of come in, teach your class, go home.

How many years is your course? Is S/He a second year in a two year course?
It's not unheard of for later students to tutor previous students, but taking responsibility for lecturing a full module/course would be unusual I'd imagine.
Re qualifications - It's pretty much up to the institute. But it's up to students to choose the institute....

as a parent of two in secondary (and another heading that way) I think you should definitely knock bad spelling and grammar on the head as quickly as possible. Just had parent teacher meeting for boy in 2nd year and the consistant comment from teachers was the bad spelling and grammar in most of the boys. I love english and I despair sometimes as to what my fella is allowed to get away with by ...

Does she play any instruments?
Has she travelled?
Can she speak other languages?
Can she sign?
Has she First Aid experience?
Can she drive a school bus?
There's very little isn't relevant for teaching, particularly primary teaching. Any of the above would be useful in a trainee (or trained) teacher.
Put everything down. Let them decide whether it is or isn't relevant.

Well I just received a "thanks but no thanks" letter from AIT today. I have to say that I am very surprised that I wasn't short-listed.
I know that in the current economic times that there would have been a lot of people applying for the post, but I am really curious as to why I didn't get short-listed as in my opinion I ticked all of the required boxes.
Is there any point in ringing the HR...
