Limey Water...

I wasn't doubting that it's limey. It was the shop-bought water and the fact that "the tea still isn't right" I was referring too. I should have made myself clearer.

Congratulations on the purchase. If it had stayed there for a week, I might have overcome initial reluctance to throw more cash at coffee technology. But it was only a few hours! Enjoy!

Thanks alastair - I'm in no rush at all on this - I appreciate the offer of assistance. Fairly hectic myself with work for now so I'll PM you later in November and hopefully we can arrange something. Cheers

espresso pressure tampers

in my experience, i would tend to stay away from these type of tampers. i would suggest you invest in a quality, traditional tamper that fits your portafilter / group handle and is also comfortable to hold. i would focus more on honing your technique and being consistent. a better training tool investment would be a naked portafilter - you could have one machined if you know someone handy or buy one online. Limey Water...
Published (2009-11-09 10:26:00)
This is an easy one to fix....brita filter for the win. Makes a huge difference. Mineral water is full of minerals (and sometimes very salty!!) and tap water has the chlorine and the mineral content varies by area. If you have loads of cash, a reverse osmosis system is the best, but they're expensive (300 euro plus). We've had our brita for years. Wouldn't ever go back.

Not too bad.
I got the Colonia san juan and another bag of something from them not too long ago. Wasn't bad.
My one issue with them is the delivery times. My bag that was roasted on the 14th of Sept did not arrive until the 25th.
I might give them a try again in the future.

It's recessed in somewhat and can get quite tight with scale/gunk. Gently and slowly lever systematically around it with a screwdriver.
Good guide here:

I seem to remember someone saying that the cahcoeira wasn't the best for espresso before....for what it's worth. It's a pity the search facility is down at the moment. I still think it's the best mug I've ever had. 5 bags of it in my press as evidence.
