Ah. 2 anecdotal stories. Firstly, the problem of housing estates has been over several years by now. Secondly, I have not heard of any recent reports of estates waiting for a phone line like that. In any case, my point is that your use of the word "often" implies that it happens in at least the large minority of cases. If eircom were to install 500 new lines a month, (obviously now very much reduced) and 20 of them were...

This is the time when you really see how contention affects connection speeds. People coming home, going online -- it really comes to a halt. I have the same package with eircom. It's the same where I live.

You get the neighbours phone numbers and check them, if they all fail you are probably on a pairgain split line arrangement . I think Net1 operate in your area and provide a much faster service than you would get on a perfect eircom line at 4 miles distance ...1mbit or so. http://www.net1.ie/images/coveragemap.jpg

Hmmmm... thats an odd one. I though it might be something to do with the speed of the service you had selected but having had a quick look they have that down on all their packages. Was also thinking it might be an issue with the modem they were providing (some providers offer a USB modem that doesnt have additonal ether net ports for multiple machines). Im on UPC here though and the modem ...

Could anyone suggest broadband without phone line in Dingle Rd, Cabra, Dublin 7? I moved there from Rosecourt it's like 150 meters from Dingle rd. I used to have NTL in Rosecourt... then when I called them they told me that they don't offer broadband on that street. Any other BB providers? And if there is no any other... what BB are people using in this area? Thanks
