There's no such thing (and there hasn't been for a while) as
airport check-in with Ryanair anymore. It's been completely online check-in for ages. The penalty is for those who "forget" to print off their boarding card and have to get it done at the airport. If you're stupid enough to forget that you need a piece of paper to board the plane, then you deserve to pay 100!

Try both and see which you prefer. I don't think you could get better advice than that.
