Migration from VastHTML?
Published (2009-11-13 21:15:02)
I think with any sort of forum software where there exists no conversion software that you are going to need to write the SQL to grab the information you have, massage it, and insert it into WordPress. I don't think it will be hard work, but it will be some work.

Hi, Thanks for the help on this issue. I reloaded everything today, careful not to use the built in installer, but instead editing the config file directly. I'm not 100 percent sure what the problem was, but I think it started from an error in the name of the database host. 'Localhost' doesn't work, and I confirmed that with previous database work I've done with Godaddy. So after inputting the correct hostname and...

Is it possible to display an "about me" style content in my users' profile? Now there are just single line forms for inputting various data such as location, website, interests, etc. But I want to have a larger window with room for adding several paragraphs of profile info. Is it possible?

Question about Integration
Published (2009-11-07 06:28:39)
@ fifthhouse - Yes, chrishajer and I were talking about the same file! Great that you got that to work. Regarding integration, yes, by "normal" I mean just sharing the users tables in the database and cookies. Deep integration loads WP into bbPress. It is better explained here, under "Functions" http://bbpress.org/documentation/integration-with-wordpress/ The plugin seems to work even if there is no integration, though....

Interesting all the other files in the folder are modified as of yesterday when I did the automatic update. But the config-sample is modified as of march 13 2008(date if my 1st install) By the way Word press is a great program & at an awesome price. Looking forward to rocking with my BBpress as well Thanks Cold in Toronto

jeffreyw4, I have installed bbpress on a couple of godaddy hosting accounts and might be able to help you out. I am off work tomorrow but doing it on here will be a major pain in the rear. If you know how to use irc you can find me on freenode.net (msg me, same nickname on there) or email me jadams2259 (atgmaildotcom) and when I get up/get a chance I will walk you through it.

Question on Integration
Published (2009-11-09 18:26:22)
I guess it's better to explain what I'm trying to accomplish. I chose bbPress because theming it is just like Wordpress. I rolled my own theme from the ground up. During the building process I realized how I wish I could add this and that, but due to the lack of documentation it's rather hard for someone like me who has limited php know how. So it got me looking into integration. My original intention of using bbPress was to...

Hi,
I was looking into that feature as well, but it's not somthing you can fix with a plugin.
You need to wait until one of the next versions

Those are definitely in the config for 2.8.6 (and since 2.6.) Is it possible you're using an old wp-config.php that you never upgraded? Check wp-config-sample.php starting at line 45. You will see these defined there.

You can use overflow:hidden to prevent people with long names from messing up your formatting - the part that is longer than you want to display will just not be visible.
You could enforce a 12 character username with a plugin (or maybe a username no longer than 12 characters.)

I have the latest releases of each I beleive:
bbpress 1.0.2

and I followed these instructions as close as possible I believe.
http://umwblogs.org/wiki/index.php/Integrating_WPM u,_BuddyPress,_and_bbPress
It did not work, I have actually tried differenct variations 4 times now. When I was at the last part I got locked out of bbpress and could not log back in. That is ...

The bb-config-sample.php won't be a problem. bbPress uses that when there is no bb-config.php as a template to create a bb-config.php for you. I've always edited the sample by hand and just renamed it. In either case, gone or not is fine.

Thanks to you both. Yes it was to have links in my forum back to the blog. OK great, I think I can do this (not versed in code but this looks quite straightforward).
If I could take the question one step further, within my blog, would I then be able to create a widget "latest forum posts" with a list of several, which would link to the posts in the forums? Or would this require deeper ...

They are not picked up by the search engines, because they are no where in your page.

There are some extra steps in the Installation ssection, beyond just putting it in the plugins folder:
http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bbpages/installat ion/
Try them out and see if that does the trick? Good luck!

Integration allows bbpress to use wppress user database so whenever an user logs in any, wp or bb, he stay logged in and he can post in both, wp and bb.

So, the topic title, like "Bold letters in Heading" here? Only on the topic page?
You need to find this in style.css:
.topictitle {
font-size: 26px;
font-weight: normal;
display: inline;
}
and change the font-weight to bold, like this:
.topictitle {
font-size: 26px;
font-weight: bold;
display: inline;
}
It's all controllable with CSS. Most of the things you've wanted to ...

I had a similar problem the first time I integrated a bbPress and WordPress site. In my case, all I had to do was clear the old bbPress and WordPress cookies, and next login went fine. Maybe give that a try?
