didn't effect the hinge at all..thanks for the tips..if I would have cut right to start with would have been perfect..hinge still held..just 2 cuts 2" apart..I hate looking like I don't know what I am doing..even if they don't know. self conscience is a mother!

I don't know this for a fact but it seems that fence row tree's are stronger and tougher to split than a tree in the middle of a woods, always seems that way, don't know if it's becasue there is nothing to protect them from wind and other elements?

I'm guessing that even if it is not the cut resistant fabric, it will still be better than my T shirt.

I don't have an opinion on chaps, however I buy the Pacific helmets for all my guys. I would stick with a helmet and not a hard-hat. Pete

I don't know what the cost would be for your area, but the only way I'd consider moving these would be with a very large tree spade.

If there's evidence of rot around where the rope is, I'd call in a qualified tree surgeon, it may be a case of lightly cutting the rotting wood out in spring time or when the saps rising and the tree should pretty much heal itself up I would have thought...
