I work in a small community hospital here in Florida. The other day 4 of us were "on assignment" placing PPD's for the staff. This was a full day event- doing over 200 for the day. I just found out that my friend apparently made a mistake. She went to inject the serum
under the skin and noticed that needle moved out of the skin and consequently did not administer enough. So she withdrew the ...

Recently we had two patients have CORVERT ordered on the same day. I work on a 26 bed telemetry floor where we have 5 patients per nurse. I am experienced and have given this drug
once before and thankfully no complications(no conversion either though) but I feel like this drug needs to be given in ICU. I would like to know if this drug is given where you work and what are the procedures. We do ...

I work in an
ICU that basically takes all kinds of patients from ODs, Traumas, neuro patients, surgeries, medical patients, etc . . . We also unfortunatly get a lot of patients from the prison. These patients are usually accompanied by a guard from the prison, but the potential visitors (ex. patient with mafia ties and confirmed gang activity) pose a safety risk to the staff and other ...

Hello, I am seeking some advice to help me deal with a situation at my workplace involving RNs writing admission orders. I began working for an inpatient rehab hospital in
PA 6 months ago and am uncomfortable with the routine practice of RNs writing admission orders. This practice has been going on long before I started working there. The reason behind this practice is so that the ...

I was wondering if anyone else thinks shift change patient transfers are unsafe. Does anyone have policies that prevent shift change transfers? Has anyone had any safety incidents? I would like to propose a change in policy at my facility but need some backup. Can anyone offer any help? We often get transfers mostly from the ED 30-45 minutes before the end of shift. The patient is "...

Sorry, I'm an LPN and the R.N.'s where I work are all having a debate. I am in
nursing school to get my R.N. and I asked my nursing instructor and she said she didn't think you could but wasn't for sure. Can someone please offer me and the other nurses I work with some insight. Thanks, Sandy

Our hospital uses productivity numbers for each shift to determine staffing. Due to supposed budget deficits they want each unit to run at 103% productivity; so basically we are expected to run one nurse short each shift. Our manager put out a memo saying that the charge nurse is expected to carry at least one patient assignment or there should be a triple assignment. I work in a busy
neuro ...
