Will 274/40-18 Tire size work on...
Published (2009-12-03 21:51:00)
There are approximately 25mm to an inch. So a 275 is 20/25 or 0.8" narrower than a 295. And yes, tire size choices can effect the operation of Traction Control as well as simple effecting traction. Do some searches on "Tire Sizes" and you'll get plenty of details.

Grinding/Vibration On Cold Start Up
Published (2009-12-01 11:47:00)
Thanks for the suggestion Jim. I wish I could describe the noise better, but not really possible due to its short duration. It doesnt give me time to pin point it before it goes away. Starter cranks the car just fine, but it is the stock starter and is pushing 8 years old, so maybe it is "hanging up". Ill put the front end on jackstands this weekend, lay under it, and have somebody crank it over and see if I can better pin...

Nitto, BFG's or Mickey...
Published (2009-11-25 18:47:00)
The BFG's are light years ahead of the Nittos IMHO. They grip WAAAY better with no heat. People who have had good results with the Nittos had to heat them first to get good 60ft's. With that said though, any tire in the size the Z06 runs will grip pretty well anyway lol. But the BFG's are where its at when it comes to a drag radial. Keep in mind though that there are trade offs for that icky sticky. The sidewalls are super soft...

Need help deciding CCW wheel color!
Published (2009-11-25 09:35:00)
It's all relative as to price (usually lighter means more expensive) and you really do need to compare apples to apples, size wise, for accurate weight comparisions. CCW lists a 17x11 Classic 4 at 19.6#. It is hard to make a weight comparison without the same size listing but I know the 3 piece wheels are lighter and in fact are stronger. The other benefit is that if you have a shunt or off course excursion and damage a wheel (usually the...

You said that you dumped the oil, did you drop the oil filter? Just cut it apart with a hack saw and look for copper or brass looking particles. That will be your clue that it is a bearing.

Well it looks like my 2002 Z06 picked up another nail in the rear. Why is it that the rear is the only tire on the vette that picks up nails. Anyway it is too close to the side wall and i don't want to waste my time with the shops because my first one they told me it is too close. I currently have Michelin sport 5000 295/35-R18 in the rear and is getting close to warn out. In the front i have ...

Can't speak to LAPD and PYF, but I got some export lights from Ecklers for my C5 years back in the 90s before taking it to Germany and they were OEM.
A little heavier than the plastic US version but no problems.

After looking through some of the posts on this subject I have noticed that the hydralic portion of the system takes most of the blame. What I am curious about is why my '96 formula with 100k and the same hydralic system gives no problems at all and i am pretty sure previous maintanence was probably not the best on this particular part of the car. I realize this is less power with the LT1, but I...

Sounds about like what I had done to my 02 except I had AFR 205 heads milled to 60cc. It was a fun and fast and got a lot of attention cruising through the drive throughs.
It was very streetable and worth 12.5 in the quarter with me driving like a granny.

Thanks Normin. They are not the rubber isolators though, the parts I'm talking about are the 90 degree brackets that connect to the rubber isolators. The very tip of the arrow is on the part.

Pull on the metal part....hard. It's just a friction fit. Get a good grip on the stereo so it doesn't smack something. I usually use my thumb as a lever against the back of the unit, and pull with the fingers.

Could be the starter solenoid hanging up right after start up and not disengaging the starter gear immediately. Just a guess, but it is possible.

I always start w/ the simple stuff. When was the fuel filter last changed
as this sounds like the culprit? Some times after sitting fuel gets past a
clogged fuel filter and allows it to start but can't keep up the fuel
pressure due to the clog and then starves out.
