Advice needed for ocassional biter
Published (2009-11-30 17:02:00)
You can also get a friend to volunteer to help you. I would start with putting Pip away when a guest comes and letting Pixie to the door where Pip can see. Have your friend knock on the door. Ignore the barking and keep knocking on the door until Pip stops. Praise and treat! Move up to tying him with his leash to something around the door, but away from Pixie. Repeat the knocking. You want to try and desensitize him to the sound. Praise and...

Crate vs. Pen Help me
Published (2009-12-01 19:01:00)
Okay. Ruger still has the big folding crate and the small hard one. I've been throwing treats into the small crate and he goes in and gets them. Today I put the top partway on and threw a greenie in there and he went in and ate the whole thing inside his crate. On the big crate: I've been throwing toys in there and playing games with him praising him when he goes in and gets the toys out. I put a doggie bed in there and threw some...

Marking Need Help, Desperately
Published (2009-11-27 12:59:00)
My little boy ( 6months ) has started marking the curtains, coffee table legs of the chairs and couch. He was doing great with the pads but now since the marking started he will hardly use the pads. I am not sure if it because I pads. or what? I was wanting to know about belly bands and how to use them? Do they work? how long do you leave them on is it 24 hours a day? Which is best throw away or washable? and does it smell up your washer when...

Whining
Published (2009-11-28 12:30:00)
We don't always pick him up when he whines. today I did because my husband had played with him and let him out of his cage when he came off night shift. I was still sleeping. He came into our room to wake us up. From the minute i got out of bed until we got to the dog park (including when we just got home! NOW!) he was/is still whining. I can't take him anywhere, I can't be with him at home anywhere... That was his first walk...

Whining
Published (2009-11-28 15:40:00)
It sounds like whining has almost become a habit for him. This is what I would do. First teach him whining. He whines, say yes, that's whining and give him a treat. Then hopefully he will be quiet for a second. The second he is quiet, give him a treat and say good boy, that's quiet. Now tell him quiet and get him to stay quiet longer and then treat, over time you expect him to be quiet longer and longer. Always try to end each...

when our pups have an accident in the house- it is our fault for not taking them out. Clearly they can't talk (that would make things SO much easier ) so it is up to us to recognize their cues that they need to go out. If you scold her, she is just going to start having accidents where you can't find it and thus can't get mad at her. She can't put two and two together that you are getting mad ...

I have my ex-pen set up the elongated way. I have her bed at the far end food and water in the middle and by the door of the ex-pen I have her pee pad. at first I would only let Pixie out of the pen when I could watch her and when I would see her do the potty dance I would pick her up and put her in her ex-pen and tell her to go pee pee on her pad. If she went I would say good girl you went pee...

Background: Milo is 1.5 years old. He was pee pad trained, but I've since transitioned him to pee outside (crate training) because I don't want to deal with pee pads anymore
So I've been teaching Milo to ring a bell to go pee using the steps listed here: How to Train Your Dog to Ring a Bell to Go Out | eHow.com
but I'm kind of stuck. He'll ring the bell if I'm standing by it (without...

Hi there.
Can you put the crate in the pen and leave the door open for him? this way, he can go in and out of it so he can get comfortable with it. I would put a t-shirt or something with your scent on it in the bottom of the crate so he can smell you and know that it's not a bad thing.
When we first got Hot Rod, he was in a crate for as long as it took to get an expen. I had his ...

You're having better luck than I did with the citronella...it didn't work for my male but he smelled nice all the time! LOL!
Seriously though...maybe put the collar on him and take him outside...then if/when he barks he will know he gets sprayed outside too and it's not just in the door area.

That is a new twist. I've never heard of this problem in my entire life! Don't you wish you could get Cesar out to help train her? Your trainer did mention stopping and waiting till the leash had slack, but I'm sure the minute you started again she would do it again. My only suggestion is either put her on a treadmill each day or try giving her 4 drops of Rescue Remedy about 45 minutes ...

I know exactly what you mean. With my five, when someone comes to the door or when we get home after work, you would think you're were at the local dog pound! LOl. I have one that is 7 months old and barks at the wind, rain, ghosts, etc. As soon as he barks, the other four run over to him and also start barking although they have no idea why or what they're barking at . I have found a squirt ...

Crate training - don't know what I'm doing I really need to crate train this little guy. He's three months old, and some articles say it's too early, but my neighbor, who shows dogs, says to do it now and fast.
Night before last I put him in his crate, had to push him in there, and he whined and cried for about 1.5 hours then settled down. The crate was next to my bed, where...

Hi I am not sure what you can do about this. Usually the two yorkies bark together when one starts but one of yours doesnt seem to like it.
Maybe it scares her and she is not expecting it and so she has an instant reaction or something. How old is your second yorkie? Maybe barking not allowed where she lived before?
Just throwing some ideas out there. You should hear some better ...

You've just gotta be on top of him 24/7 until he's trustworthy. Jackson will do the sneak off poop thing usually when it's raining outside but he gets free run of the house since 99% of the time, he's trustworthy. Because we've been having more rain lately, I've been keeping away from his usual spots and whenever he wanders off, I'm immediately on him and the door gets closed that leads to the...
