I can kind of see where ATI is coming from. 99% of people won't use their 5970 for anything that should stress it to "dangerous" levels.
By that I more specifically mean most people don't overclock nor run benchmarks on a regular basis.
It's still stupid that they won't shape up though. I can't imagine it would add THAT much extra cost to improve the cooler and get those VRM's cooled down....

most people who have a 4870x2 or a 295 will have a core2quad, or a core i7... the e8400 and the e6300 are relatively popluar, but it doesnt validate your point... the same could be said about any lower grade processor, its like putting them on a pentium platform, and because the 4870x2 out performs the 295 by a few fps its ...

Nice to hear
I been waiting for this update a couple of weeks to complete my win 7 install. Of course I could install win 7 right away and update firmware later, but I like to have everything ready when I first install (incl. TRIM)
BTW, I dont think they release a new firmware version, but just an updated version of the flash tool?

hmm, very interesting, I don't like this new way of counting cores, but there isn't a universal definition of what a core is, so no problems with this, I think.
I was reading the comments, so they are thinking in the future to offload all the FP work to a on-die GPU?

Some day I will get across to the guys here about the level of quality of the Supermicro boards. Just can't be touched and they don't break.
Only downside is lack of being able to OC them/

Booooooooo.... want 32nm quad+HT details
The S versions of the 750 and 860 dont interest.... just tweaked VID and a lower default speed. The tuned power envelope is no big achievement
