These are 2 VERY easy achievements.
Get both in 1 go.
Single Player, play as Zoe (due to her choosing sniper as AI).
No Mercy on Easy.
now just run through the campaign using melee only so you dont cause friendly fire (bots dont cause friendly fire).
Dont use ANYTHING but your pistols and only when safe. No pipes, mollys, mounted guns, none of it.

This glitch works as you say it does, I just finished No Mercy on expert using this. Although, when you press the RT on the idle character, they still don't take damage, at least for me they didn't.

this took me TONS of tries the other night, until i finally figured it out...
I'm assuming you are boosting this using 2 controllers.
