'60s On 6 Playlist

Is it just me, or are there tons of new additions while some of the "biggest" acts are getting more airplay than they've had in months? Today I heard Johnny Rivers 4 times spread across four 15-minute listening intervals throughout the day. Haven't heard that kind of rotation on him since late spring.

I just added Mr. Businessman, which will delight those of you who enjoy spending counterfeit incentive and wasting precious time and health. I also added Ballad Of The Green Berets , a long-ignored number one hit that may have been played as a display of patriotism in light of last week's shootings at Fort Hood. And I added Stevie Wonder's Blowin' In The Wind , which peaked at #9. Peter Paul & Mary's version peaked...

Actually, KAZG Lamplighter doesn't have a playlist half as big as 60s on 6, you get the usual stale 300 burnt out ones that Sirius plays but not the other ones that we get to hear. And its off the air half the day. So, I stand by my previous statement, Phoenix radio offers nothing close to what I get on Sirius/XM.

But the reality is 80's music is "oldies" to anyone too young to have experienced the 80s. It happens to all recorded music with the passage of time. Doesn't mean it is bad music necessarily, just that it had its day in the Sun so to speak. Good music endures time....

Long, long time ago, I can still remember when that music used to make me smile And I knew that if I gave a chance The nostalgia’d put me in a trance And I’d always wind up happy for awhile But November 12 made me shiver With every station they delivered Songs that would repeat, yep XM DJs out on the doorstep I can’t remember if I cried When I realized that Sirius lied And something touched me deep inside The day That XM Died....

Yeah, azjoe, those 35 burned out artists defined the 60's. Along with many, many others whose songs are unplayed, or underplayed. The original, wildly popular XM, which gained subscribers at an amazing pace, did not play the same 35 artists over and over on its 60's channel. It played a wider variety. The excellent Music Choice service, available to millions now on Comcast and other sources, has a larger playlist on every one of its...

You are 100% correct - the decade channels (and XM for that matter) of the past was a place where music was celebrated - where the experience of listening to the radio was recaptured. IT was something that excited people about listening - and got us to tune in. Radio today rarely has that effect on people and the fact that XM is nothing but a shell of itself is truly sad. On that note, I really, really wish I had recorded some of the 40s on 4...

Would seem subscribers would be better focused on getting things back to the nature of XM before thinking about screwing up things more than they already are. If you don't like a channel or two or what they have become, just don't listen to them. Works every time!

Once again it's back to the "Cousin Brucie can do no wrong" category. If Lou had been doing these specials on his own on XM prior to the merger they wouldn't happen now. Disagree only on "Dedicated to the One I Love." The Mamas & Papas did a fantastic job on that song, and the intro is perfect. And on a list of great intros, how could you leave out: Secret Agent Man -- Johnny Rivers 96 Tears -- ? and the Mysterians Day Tripper -- The Beatles Opus 17 -- The Four Seasons If I Could Build My Whole World Around You -- Marvin Gaye & ...

The 70's were really Casey's day, so I'm glad they are keeping them. I will miss AT40 80s, but not as much as if they took it off the 70s. After a few years of recording them, I am getting a lot of overlap, so to me, it isn't the end of the world -- although I do like to listen to them live too. I am listening to the big 40 countdown (myfi recorded), and enjoying it. I don't care about...

Among the 20 best-selling singles artists of the 1980s were Michael Jackson (#1), Lionel Richie (#7), Kenny Rogers, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Sheena Easton, and Kool & the Gang. Here is a 390-song sample of what's been played on '80s On 8 since December 31, 2008. Don't bother looking for anything by those artists. You'll also find no adult hits, no country hits, and very few R&...
