http://www.romawireless.com/hotspot_eng.htm and http://wi-fi.jiwire.com/search-wifi-hotspots.htm?city_id=2398094 may be useful. One would expect to buy something (a coffee/whatever) to use wifi at any cafe, anywhere.

Portugal River Cruise

Zuriga - I understand - we were both very anti-cruise and have not become "cruisers". Neither I nor my husband could bear to be on a ship with hundreds/thousands of passengers - ideally a maximum of 300 is OK for us. On the Danube cruise ( our 4th cruise but 1st River cruise) there were no more than about 130 - which reduced to 98 when some people who were only booked as far as Vienna left the ship. That was a good number...

Frankfurt is the financial and commercial centre of Germany. Much of historic old centre was destroyed by WWII bombing and the modern buildings that replaced the old downtown core are uninteresting to me. I've been downtown once to do some shopping but have tended to by-pass it when there. Cars - Stuttgar, as has been previously posted for Mercedes and Porsche is your nearest bet. Lots of historical sites within a one hour drive of...

How to get to Sorano?

Is there a public bus to this town and if so, where from? We can either approach from the north (Pienza Tuscany) or the South (Rome). The easiest solution preferred? We would rather not rent a car, if possible.

Not sure about your travel ideas but certainly you can fly from Shannon direct to Glasgow (Prestwick) or Edinburgh (subject to dates etc) using Mr Michael O'Leary's budget airline RYANAIR. It continues to outperform other carriers and is regarded as one of the best airlines operating in Europe. You need to study the details carefully especially the baggage charges etc but it is all perfectly feasible and should be your first...

If it will help, here are some of my photos of the area: http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLanding.action?c= 14rwcnk1.8neppfe1&x=0&y=1dj3ht&localeid=en_US It was raining up in Guimaraes so the first 20 or so photos are darker. The Douro photos start around 44, ending with some of the VT meet in Cascais. The Vintage House arranged for the guided hike at Quinta de Tecedeiras.

Hi
Have you checked out the Grand Hotel Excelsior Victoria - http://www.exvitt.it. I'm sure they can arrange a private boat transfer to wherever you want to go. The bus ride from Sorrento to Positano takes about 20 minutes. On your way to Positano make sure you get a seat on the right hand side of the bus and you will be rewarded with spectacular views.

I'd vote for the Eiffel Tower location. If you have a 2-year-old, you do not want to be spending any more time than absolutely necessary on the Metro. It's such a pretty area and you can walk around and enjoy the lights.
Have a great trip. What fun!

Hi Mauro, I don't know about Florence but read in La Presse, Montreal newspaper, that the Mayor of Rome was starting a campaign to improve Rome's image in the eyes of tourists. There were many, well-documented reports of abuse of unsuspecting tourists in restaurants et al this past year, enough to make the mayor decide to act.
I'm just speaking from memory, didn't pay too much attention myself...

As a Tour Director I fronted several five star tours in Ireland, including a tour that stayed in castles every night. For a novice traveller it is a good way to do this, and my groups were always satisfied with the experience. Of course mostly due to my exceptional job a the Tour Director. (No humility in my family 'cause I got it all). Seriously folks, I could elaborate on the wonders of ...

Babies, toddlers and children survive perfectly well in cold temperatures.
It is not going to be the Arctic. The average low for February is not even below freezing:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/city_guides/res ults.shtml?tt=TT004000
Cold weather does not cause sickness in itself, and Rome temperatures arenot low enough to cause hypothermia. Getting very cold for a long time can ...

This is a travel forum, not a forum for discussing the global economical climate. Long story cut short: I'm afraid nobody knows when the financial crisis will end, that's sort of part and parcel of the whole crisis.
If I did know, I wouldn't be sitting here now, I'd be elsewhere, placing my (imaginary) money wisely ;)

Rain occurs all year round on this continent so you are likely to encounter some any time. No one can guarantee you sunny weather even in high summer.
How about temperatures? It will be notably colder than in June. Can you tolerate the lousiest condidtions of all - temperatures just above freezing point, rain and strong wind? Trust me, this is worse than anything below zero.

I didn't look it up, but if your hotel is in/near the Plaka you will have easy walking. There are a couple of ways in, but I'd walk around to the "main" entrance and walk up past the theater area to get shots of the "front" of the park area which will hide the museum in the back. Side shots of the temple to the virgins on the left and then from the back side looking from the museum upward ...

Really depends on the area & date you want. Travelodge have cheap rooms for certain parts of London if you book well in advance ( friday & saturday nights tend to be more expensive ) www.travelodge.co.uk OR you could try http://www.london30.com/london-accommodation-hotel -1.html
which is another great website with a selection of inexpensive hotels in the capital. Have a nice time,

You have to pass through Florence on the way from Pisa to Rome (and probably on the way from Nice to Pisa, if you take the train). It seems daft to go back again.
So stay in Florence overnight (better, stay 2 nights) before or after Pisa (which is an easy morning or afternoon trip from Florence) then go direct from Rome to Venice later. Much more sensible, imo.
Do not miss Bruges. Take a ...
