Weather is always difficult to predict, but you can get an idea from the climate tables here: http://www.tenerife-uncovered.com/index.php/Weather-Climate.html and here: http://www.webtenerifeuk.co.uk/PortalTenerife/Area +profesional/Tenerife+Film+Commission/El+tiempo/Clima/valores+cli matologicos+normales.htm?Lang=en

Good advice from picek. It's such a long time since I travelled solo and back then in the Dark Ages it was not so easy for a woman. For me the most difficult part was always eating alone. Nowadays, I often observe young women sitting in cafes alone, except for their lap-tops. It's not long before they strike up a relaxed, confident and unselfconscious conversation with whoever happens to take the only vacant seat left right...

I wonder if the Greek word for "meat" has the same connotation as the Italian word does, that is, for meat from a cow? Bill

i too would skip lugano as i dont find it to be that special especially considering that youre going to rome and need more time there (for rome at least 4 days). as for zürich, i would also spend just a day there.

Iceland is a western European country with a wide selection of domestic and imported (primarily European) goods. Being a small country, your choices are a bit limited. Imported items tend to be costlier. If there is something you cannot live without from home, or speciality items (memory for your camera, etc.), you should bring that type of stuff along.

If you use mappy.com for the pedestrian walking instructions, it may be easier if you click in the top right corner for the older "ancienne" version. for me it is easier to use.

What to drink?

We always celebrate landing in Paris by getting a kir royale (cassis and champagne). It's a drink from Burgundy but it's our private ritual. They are good and something you won't find too many places outside of France. You can get a plain kir too. That is cassis and white wine (aligot if you are a purist).

You can go by bus from Dubrovnik to Kotor and then Kotor to Ulcinj and Ulcinj to Tirana. There's a bus at 10.30 from Dubrovnik to Kotor that goes on to Ulcinj.
Here's what Wikipedoa has to say about geting for Ulcinj to Tirana
"What may be the best crossing from Montenegro are the buses from Ulcinj, crossing at Muriqan to Shkodra. They depart at least twice daily, and drop you off at the ...

I see you did post this as a separate posting, so I could have saved my little grey cells much agitation if I had looked in the forums first!! Anyhow, good points by Leics, especially re Sunday trains. In this regard, you will be limited in your choice of exit from Lochwinnoch on a Sunday. It would be much easier to rent a car but as you won't drive in Glasgow, this does make it rather ...

A bit rushed, but doable as long as you set your expectations of what you want to see and not try to see it all.
Only thing that sticks out, is some of the jumps - like Czech to Paris. Why not go London into Paris via Eurostar so you make a "circle" and not zigzag?
One good budget airline I have used is Air Berlin - they have some surprising fares to some of the cities mentioned.

Not yet, mostly.
It's worth a look, but timetables are usually uploaded around 6 mnths in advance (some carriers upload twice a year, others more regularly).
Aegean Air and Olympic Airlines fly the route.
Cheapest fares are always booked well in advance, but not too far....often the fare you are quoted very early on is the 'standard' fare.
Check now, then keep checking. Book when ...

I'm shocked. We've been traveling in France for nearly 20 years and have never heard anything like that. The French have been polite, helpful and kind to us. It certainly is not usual behavior; it is very odd.
I can't imagine a Frenchman speaking to a stranger like that in the first place. It makes me wonder if the person really was French or just pretending to be. Certainly your daughter ...

I don't know - I suppose they all drink what they like best - what they prefer. That's what I do wherever I am.
Are there fashions in drinking these days? I thought that went out when I was last expected to order a Pimms - because that's what women did at a bar.
I hated the fruit salad floating on top of my glass with a stupid miniature umbrella stuck into the marschino cherry!

X95 Syntagma Square- Airport Express has its departure point at the center of Athens (Syntagma Square across the park from the Grande Bretagne) and via Vas. Sofias Avenue, Mesogion Avenue and Attiki Odos terminates at the airport. Every 10-30 minutes, 24 hours a day. Will take about 30 minutes to reach the airport at the hour you will be travelling! Rodez is the nearest railway station to Conques. Trains to Lyon from there take around 8 hours. It would be much better if you flew back to Stansted from a nearer airport.

That's really easy.
From CDG there is a rail link. The station is about a mile from the airport but there is a free shuttle bus. When you buy your rail ticket you can also buy Metro tickets. The train will take you to the Gard du Nord station in Paris where you pick up the Metro. From here take Metro line 4 direction Porte d'Orleans to Les Halles (5 stops)and that is the nearest stop to the ...
