There are many beach & snorkeling spots in PR, but it sounds like you won't have enough time to venture out farther into the island where the real "happening" places are located. For instance, the Cabo Rojo area is way better than the ones found near San Juan. Off the beaten paths in the south are also great for such activities. Too bad, you're not interested in going to the nearby islands like...

Several day bike trip in Cuba
Published (2009-11-23 20:52:00)
What part of Cuba would you recommend for trip by bike? Most of terrain is more-or-less flat, except for Sierra Maestra and eastern hights, and I know that central-west and far east part are more filled with interesting towns and sites, but is there something else that would make difference to me? We plan to rent bikes. I know they're mostly in bad condition, but believe me, I'm used to:)

Best Restaurants and Nightlife...
Published (2009-11-21 12:08:00)
Hi There, I'm travelling with my girlfriend to Panama and will stay at Bocas Del Toro for a few days. Can someone recommend the best restaurants and nice spots of nightlife. Of course, being with a girlfriend you don't want to go to dangerous or agressive environments... I read good things about these ones: - Pickled Parrot - El Ultimo Refugio - Island Time Do you agree? Would you add other ones...? Thanks!

For your wife, I'd suggest that she try some tubing first in a gentle river. You do wear life jackets while white water rafting (at least in the States) but the fun is that you may get dumped and wet. I applaud her willingness to push the envelope, but I wouldn't want to try this for the first time in a foreign country. It seems that you have left out the east (Caribbean) coast. We saw the most wildlife in the Tortugero area...

THANKS!! We left out the east (Caribbean) coast due to time constraints and the fact we don't want to be in transit too much in the 3 weeks. I've read the Monteverde - Arenal trip is far due to the topography - the jeep-boat-jeep trip cuts it down a lot. But carless in Arenal or Monteverde would be a problem. Are there local taxis to get around? WHICH lodge in Drakes Bay did you stay at?

Travelling from Port au Prince...
Published (2009-11-30 22:19:00)
I have never taken the bus to Port-au-Prince but I understand that the trip takes about 12 hours so you would have to find a place to sleep and take the Bávaro Express the day after. The Terra Bus terminal is on Ave 27 de Febrero so you could either take a carro público northbound (the same side as the terminal) and get off after crossing Ave. Máximo Gómez and then take another carro público on that avenue going towards the water. Or you...

I highly, highly recommend La Sabana in Sabana North, about 15 minutes from SJO. Very quiet, beautiful building, clean rooms with or without kitchen, comfy beds, clean bathrooms, wonderful breakfast, outdoor swimming pool, excellent service, computer room, totally safe and secure, plus safes in room. We paid $50 US per night for 2 people. I also recommend Hampton Inn & Suites at SJO (right ...

I think it's not possible to reserve through Via Azul's page. It doesn't works correctly. You have to once you get in Cuba. Best wishes.

The first question you must ask yourself is how much time, energy and money are you willing to spend. How serious are you? Are you serious enough to start before your arrival learning phrases and certain fundamentals like what each letter sounds like? Are you really going to dedicate almost all your time while attending a school studying, practicing and doing "homework" to get the most out of...

Yes, I agree that the Sierra Maestra area would provide a great biking venue. We were around there, and did a day hike, which was wonderful. We were all over Cuba, and I suggest that you study your map well and venture out into the less touristy areas & more off-the-beaten path for your cycling adventure. Good Luck & Enjoy Enchanting Cuba!

If nightlife is what you want and you're staying in that area then Sosua is definitely where you want to be but observe that Sosúa is a tourist town so you'll definitely encounter more tourists than locals. I haven't been there but there are 1 non resort place that I know of Rocky's Bar: www.rockysbar.com Rocky's Bar isn't located exactly by the beach but it takes about 5 minutes to walk ...
