The answer to your question is yes, Alltel and Sprint do have an EVDO roaming agreement. But the case with both providers, is that they only modify their PRL so that customers on smartphones, PDA's, and Wireless PC Cards are able to EVDO roam between networks. I'm wondering if the alltel connection times out after a period of time if the username and password isn't entered. When I have the modem in my vista, I never have to worry about username or pass, but maybe that could be causing the problem with my XP? Does anyone else have this problem?

Maybe you could ask your rep and just buy the phone outright. You still get the one year warranty.

I'm sure they won't just give you national coverage. They'll devise some offer to get you to move to a more expensive Verizon plan.

Hmm you may need a Verizon phone. See if there is a Verizon ROM for your phone that may be more compatible or look into getting a newer phone? But either way call Verizon (or Alltel if you are still under them) and get some tech support.

I have no idea what your mailbox number might be, maybe the last 4 digits of your phone #? In any case, something is screwed up. Have you tried going into your local store, or calling tech support again?
