I've mentioned this marvelous site elsewhere on WNY, but it's well worth revisiting. Not all of the photos necessarily represent a renaissance but the transformation in many cases is heartening. Either way, it's an amazing and fascinating record. The invincible Harlem or Real Estate Rewind In Harlem Christmas and New Years are times of celebration. They are also times for reflection. And what better place to reflect on than our...

There's a couple of them actually at the Houston and Bowery location. They're across the street from each other. The other one in Manhattan is on St. John's church property in Morningside Heights. Thread here . By the way, just because the current site is not great does not mean you should take whatever you can get. There are other better developers (almost all except for Sam Chang, are better than the uber-cheap, uber-bad...

i think you have your mind made up .. you should walk away ... there's a couple of building in the 90s on the upper east side .. i'm sure you can get great deals there .. also in harlem and in brooklyn. doesn't sound like you have a real preference for where you live .. just price .. so this could work to your benefit and i'm sure you'll find a huge apt for your price range .. question remains .. will you still be able...

i am interested in buying here as well. hopefully someone can offer some advice.
the only caveat is that although the building offers excellent water views (for high prices of course), the city plans to build residential buildings right near the battery parking garage, which would affect sunlight coming into the room and obviously the water views. this could all of course take place in 10,...

Long-Vacant Harlem School Site Moves Toward Development
By ERIN DURKIN
Special to the Sun
July 12, 2007
Development plans are emerging for the site of a long-vacant Harlem school building, but the proposal is generating strong opposition among neighborhood groups who question whether more than 100 co-op apartments would be affordable to local residents.
The building that...

These are mixed residential and commercial buildings - someare minimally maintained and rundown (including the one I live in). Thesebuildings as well as the ones on the east side of the same block of 8thAvenue don't seem to fit in the new 8th Avenue with the Hearst Building andthe new hotel (and various condos ...

I justed stumbled upon this thread by chance.
I was looking for a list of property managers across all of North America with no luck so far. I must say that the New York lists here are very helpful.
(In case you're wondering why I want the list, I have a new website that offers free rental ads to property managers and landlords. http://www.Rentopedia.com
The site is brand new, so ...

There was a little back and forth in another thread about this one a few weeks ago.
Indications then were that there was trouble in the air. I walked by the CH last week and noticed that there'd been zero progress on the PH and that the plants in the window boxes were deader than ever. Sad, especially given that it's a nice property and well done.
It must be a nightmare to be a ...

That is so sad ^ as that church is sweet from the outside. I had erroneously assumed that the Church transferred / sold air rights for the benefit of the Olivia which went up next door a few years back.
Perhaps there is an upside as a new tower here could somewhat block theview of the Olivia's banal backside.

According to a mailing I received this week from St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, Extell has also purchased the unused development rights from the St. Thomas Choir School on West 58th Street - at $185 per square foot, for a total of $2,217,040 plus conveyance taxes. The deal closed on November 16.

You're right, there isn't a specific thread for this project. The discussion is scattered across several other threads because it's a relatively small project.
It's currently under construction as you can see from the photos I took of the site back in October here . I'm sure it has risen higher since then.

This was the most visible remnant of the old Times Square, I’m not a purveyor of this smut, but I’m going to miss the by-gone era this theater represented. In reality though the old atmosphere hasn't really existed for a good ten years now.

The Playpen, an Eighth Avenue pornography emporium, was built in 1916 as the Ideal Theater. And the quality of its original architecture ...
