I believe the case has been settled ? The judges ruled that this was unlawful discrimination and that the Jewish school was breaking laws whose very design included protecting Jews from discrimination. This is of course not unique to any religion, once religions get any sort of power, you find that being "the wrong kind of X" can get quite uncomfortable surprisingly quickly... A Christian child can be denied a state funded Christian...

If you can get into LBS, jump at the chance. It's connections with all the City institutions and slickness of recruitment - even globally - are second to none.

Oxford PhD vs ETH Msc

I don't know much about EPFL, except that they help in arranging in internship, which is quite feasible given number of shops in Geneva. Concerning MSc QF in Zurich, I would say that graduates' placements depend mostly on the graduates themselves, though benefiting from the program's contacts is not that uncommon also. I once spoke to a guy from Imperial's masters and I think it's actually quite the same there,...

Can someone comment on the distribution of jobs in quantitative finance? (very broadly defined skill-wise, to include jobs that involve quantitative finance and also statistical/econometric work, etc) Where is one likely to find jobs? Do types of jobs and employers differ by location? Which place is most likely for landing a junior position? Are any entry-level positions likely to be found on the West Coast? The vast majority of quant jobs are in New York City area. Portfolio management is a bit more distributed, and there are some hedge funds outside of the NYC area. In some areas, it's rather hard to get an entry level position, because one thing that you have to convince people of is that you won't move to NYC. There are a lot of finance jobs on the West Coast, but these tend to be more private equity and venture capital and less...

Anecdotally (from the US), during a recent interview I mentioned that I was married and the interviewer looked frightened and began to stammer that he wasn't allowed to ask me questions about that. I can only imagine what he would have said if I started to go into religion or politics...

How to get to algo trading world
Published (2009-12-01 18:35:00)
Yes, definitely answering those questions is extremely important. Without this I wouldn't put my real money on the market. But there's still a place for improvements and new approaches. And passion helps me here a lot. Dominic, regarding my English, I just mentioned about it because I'm aware of my poor English :-) Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned about this however in the way I did.

where are you located? many prop shops here in chicago have internship programs (i was part of one this past summer). if you google chicago prop shops, there is a website out there that contains many of the prop shops. start on their websites and see if they have anything. if not, email them expressing some interest.

Sell side derivatives maths and courses are mostly irrelevant for buy side jobs like hedge funds and algo trading. The only questions you will be asked for algo trading are "Are you an expert C++ coder" and "Is your statistics/time-series really good"? Everything else you will be expected to learn as needed. Your financial analysis class won't make a difference. Your ...

OK, I cannot answer your questions directly as I am not working at the moment, and indeed have similar questions myself. What I CAN share with you was my experience in Analyst level Derivatives Sales many moons ago. Most of my time was spent with 2 to 3 phones going at once. Most of my clients were traders from other banks whose name would light up on my screen. I'd pick up...

There is actually a section on bio- quants in our quant careers guide. Essentially the problem is one of perception. We all (should) know that modelling the flow of blood is vastly harder than the flow of water, yet some managers see anything to do with biology as wholly non-quant. Thus a lot goes to the very precise nature of what your PhD is called and how it is presented...

I am pretty sure that references are required everywhere and in this case (masters) might be close to a formality. Why can't you ask your previous boss(es) or smth for a reference. Since it's not a PhD and research isn't the main goal it shouldn't be an issue. Why not LBS?

Be perfectly correct in your spelling and grammar - don't confuse loose and lose for example Google similar questions (what are my primary weaknesses?) etc. - there's a ton of stuff out there.
