I'm glad y'all brought support and licensing up; that's probably the biggest deal, in regards to TrueCrypt as a business decision. There's a lot of potential, yet it appears that they aren't sure what to do with it. Maybe they are. Then again, without any involvement in the community that they are fortunate to have amassed, who knows what their vision is. With all of this in mind, it probably doesn't scale half as...

I used TrueCrypt to encrypt a partition and was curious to see what my recovery program "File Scavenger" would be able to recover. Surprisingly, the program could not recover a single file. It seems to me that this method of "wiping data" was more effective than the "Eraser" wiping program (Which had leftover recoverable data..) This leads me to the following question: Is encrypting a...

I haven't seen that mentioned. You may be (at least somewhat) protected as part of their virtual network. All that I can see of it with Nmap (on the connected machine) are the local and remote TAP adapters, and a couple remote routers (192.168.*.*). I don't see anything suspicious via TCPView or Wireshark. As expected, I don't see any of it from other machines on my local network. I suspect that users are sandboxed from each...

Such a system exists. It is called MailVault. It internally generates the keys and manages them between users. The user when logged in gets access to his key and enters a password to decrypt the message. The message otherwise sits in plaintext. The plaintext when the user sends it is automatically encrypted to the recipient. The only issue is the sender and recipient have to be in the same system...

I use 6.2 and it has worked flawlessly. I don't frequent their message boards because I never had need to - I've never had a problem.

Well, there are hardware keyloggers which can only be removed physically (they are somewhat hard to spot since most devices are small) . As far as I know it's impossible for a keylogger to "survive" a HD wipe (let alone replacing one).

I installed Hotspot Shield yesterday and it performed quite well, much faster than JonDo and Tor's free networks. Its website says that it encrypts everything you do on the net, whatever program you use.
JonDo and TOR have the problem that you can't use Flash and Javascript without compromising your anonymity. Does Hotspot Shield have the same problem, or is it safe to use Flash and ...

Never heard of the guy. Bluetack on the other hand has built a solid reputation along the years.
It's true that the approach used by PeerGuardian may not always work as it relies on blacklisting IPs.

To answer your question, both options should be safe. There are 2 ways you can lose data from an encrypted partition:
1) software bugs - you can't do too much about that, and they can affect both partitions and file containers.
2) user error (forgetting password, accidentally erase the file, deleting the partition, etc.). From this perspective, it really depends on what is your style of ...
