I think the emphasis on the Dow is overstated, as I argued back when Bush was President too. The problem is that people look at that and say "hey, the economy is doing great!" I think it's obvious that if someone kills a bunch of people, and his name sounds Arabic, the majority of Fox poll participants will call him a terrorist, regardless of any other information. This doesn't mean that a more considered reflection won't also suggest this idea, but polls on sights like Fox or CNN don't reflect much thinking.
