Do they need to put up more masts in urban areas? Ok. To improve coverage granted. But to upgrade capacity? Wouldn't they just have to update their boxes?

Will the networks grind to a halt ?

O2 is already grinding to a halt in areas in Manchester, not sure what is going on (and glad i'm no longer with them), my mum had no signal at all for a few days last week (on various handsets), and just before I switched it was happening regular to me as well. The more things like iPhones and mobile dongles they sell will no doubt make things worse. People want the best coverage and download speeds, yet go out in force to stop new masts...

No problem, Satsuma had a play with one a while back and said "When the price driops to £150 on PAYG (including top up) this will be a good phone to buy." so for just over £100 you should be ok. http://forum.whatmobile.net/showthre...t=40283&page=3

VERY impressed with the lg gw300! so easy to use, not looked at the manual once. was worried it would be a bit too simple and plain as its low level, but its nnot, its just right, easy to use, but not for idiots. and the sound quality is amazing, and even better with the free skull candy headphones! for £59 pluss £10 top up, very very good!

Will the networks grind to a halt ?

That's my whole point, if the network cannot give me a certain speed, they should realistically say what I should get. For example, in an ideal world the network would offer, and give, all users 8mb broadband. When all factors are taken into account, they can offer me, for example, 4mb, due to distance from the exchange, contention ratio, etc. Therefore, I want to be told before I sign my contract that I would get 4mb at best, not 8mb,...

I think before 3G goes down completely, I think the situation may be saved, certainly in the towns and cities, by local authority sponsored wifi. Most urban councils are looking into it and want to do it including my own. Of course it takes time and needs money.

TMob or Orange
Published (2009-12-01 10:23:00)
I'm thinking about jumping ship from O2 to TMob or Orange (better 9700 deals and gifts). The question is, which is a better network? I'll be using the phone internationally, should that make any difference.

Hmmm. I'm not sure the world needs another OS. Is this supposed to be for Samsung handsets only? Ok. They do sell loads and they're already ahead of Nokia's Maemo in one sense that they've got some good content partnerships sorted out already and are offering a significant reward to developers. Also, unlike most mobile manufacturers, they've also got a good record on delivering to market.

In a word. 'Probably'
Much like everything else in this country, focus has always been on maximising profit and minimising investment to make it happen. I can see the networks expecting the government to pay for it if we want a 21st century information network etc etc.

I think the obvious choice would be any handset with Android software installed such as HTC Hero (which is currently the best Android device out there to be honest).
It can be a little tricky setting up the Google Apps account on an Android phone by all accounts (I have not yet tried unfortunately) but this thread I have just come across should help matters http://www.google.com/support/...

Deal with 3 direct with a variety of phones, but best is brand new Nokia 6120.
On any plan, but say Mix & Match 300.
Until end of month can take this with a 6 month contract only.
Therefore works out crazy cheap overall.
Quidco increased rates until end of month - MM300 is now £34.
Also can recommend a friend (or yourself for £30 on each account).
Plus go through ...

Well as mentioned on your worst phone thread old bill there's a few weeks to go but so far for me it's
1.The iPhone (groans from some forum members)for sheer ease of use and the apps store.
2. The Aura, expensive, flawed, but(to me) a thing of beauty with superb build.
3.The LG bl40 which I've had three days and is one of those phones which is far better than you think. To be honest for ...

Hi
Its really all about personal choice.
Where I live in the UK T-Mobile offers the best signal. I like the flext plans as it makes me feel that I have some control over how I spend my allowance. I have never had an issue with customer service and to fair they matched a deal from Vodafone to keep me.
I have also been with Orange and currently have a 30 day sim only plan with them. ...

Very little real world N900 experience on this forum and not much more out there.
And zippo Milestone experience out there.
But if you have to spend the readies now.....
