Komodo or Sulawesi liveaboards?

Doing 2 morning followed by 2 afternoon and an evening/night dive is no problem in Bali. Hire a private guide and they are used to a 4 to 5 dive a day routine. Elmer --

Macro in the Red Sea?
Published (2010-03-16 05:16:00)
QUOTE (DDT uk @ Mar 16 2010, 08:35 PM) It would appear that you are quite right. No night dives are allowed within the Marine Park by law. While I hate to see more and more restrictions placed on divers, that is one that I can understand and accept. We had enough close calls down there in the early '90's when only experienced divers were heading down there, and there was very few spots that I would allow a night...

QUOTE (Karl @ Mar 16 2010, 09:50 PM) Hey Alex, I'd give Melbourne a miss - too many Victorians live there - come to Perth instead. Great place to live and visit, Mediterainan climate, fantastic people with a laid backed life style and some great diving Karl Dont mind Karl...he just knows we've got better diving and football teams in Victoria! How did your trip to Melbourne go Alex, any pics to show?

QUOTE (bursprak @ Mar 15 2010, 02:26 PM) Hello I'm planning a trip to Florida in June/July and consider to squeeze a day or two of diving into the schedule. I'm thinking somewhere in the keys, which is best Key West or Key Largo. I know that they have the Vanderberg close to Key West but is there something else? I've been looking at possible dive trips to Bali, Komodo, or Sulawesi. I'm particularly focused on macro photography, though I have a 10-22mm lens and dome as well. I want a trip where I'm doing 4 dives a day typically, so I've been looking at live aboards, since the shore operations I've seen all seem to assume 2-3 dives per day at most. Boats like the Paradise Dancer are attractive, but ...

I won a free cruise in a raffle to the Bahamas for a week. I know cruises are not great for diving but I couldn't pass up a dive excursion. I have very little information on the excursion and am worried if the dive boat will not have a camera table/rinse tank. Think I should take my Canon 500D / Ikelite Housing with 8" dome on the dive excursion or too risky?

Hi, I am in touch with the Nai“a guys to redeem a prize this summer. My idea was combining a one week charter in Fiji with one week extension to Tonga to see humpbacks, but they have told me they are not doing the whale safari this year due to problems with the local authorities. They also said they are unsure about whether next year will be able to restore the operation. Does somebody ...

Hi, I will be over in the South Pacific/Asia in Late September/Early October and looking at the following locations for Scuba diving: Dumaguete, Phillipines vs Mabul/Sipidan Mainly looking at these areas as they seem to be good value. Want to keep it to about $1500 max for 7 nights accomidation + diving. I did however see that October is the end of the rainy season in the ...

Going to dive the Red Sea early April, Deadalus and St Johns. Don't seems to see alot of macro pictures from the Red Sea, so what will I miss if I don't bring my macro gears at all? I'm asking because my smile doesn't work at the check-in counters as magical as some other guys post here, tired of travelling with 40kg luggages, and trying to save couple kg by leaving out the macro port, ...

Hello all, This one should be easier than Tasmania - as lots of folks on here are from the Melbourne area. Before heading to Tassie - we'll be spending 4-5 days diving around Melbourne. Looking for suggestions of sites and areas that are productive - ideally shallow, animal rich shore dives are best (as these are also cheapest!). But happy to consider anything that offers something a ...

Hi all, My fiancee and I are traveling to Indonesia in November and I am scouting flights. I would like to travel EVA in Elite class as it is nicer than economy and we can't afford business class. I normally book via their website but I am experiencing an issue with it. We need to go open-jaw due to our itinerary. We want to fly LAX-CGK (11/21), then return DPS-LAX (12/12,13 or 14...

Hi everyone, I've travelled on these ERJ-145 commuter planes before, but not in the configuration I will be travelling with soon. I'll be in a single seat (there's a column of single seats on the left of the plane, and a column of double seats on the right). I know my bag will easily fit under the double seats, since they don't usually have a divider between them. What I want to know is:...

I'm on a big trip in Bali, and have already dived in Menjangan, Secret Bay, round Talumben, Padangbai and soon I'll be on Nusa Lembongan. I need some ideas about where to go next. I'm looking at setting up a trip to Sulawesi in Sept, Oct or Nov and was wanting to get some recomendations as to what resorts and dive operations people here have used and would recommend? Also why you recommend it please? Looking for a bit of muck diving, gotten bite by the muck bug, but also want to get some reef diving in also. Thanks!

Anyone out there been through San Juan recently? I know there used to be a lot of camera gear that went missing through there a few years ago but what about now? Should I avoid the stop over there?
