Thank you Yvonne and so nice to meet you. I have spent a wonderful time viewing your website with a big smile...such lovely work. I love dogs and received one for my last Birthday ! A dream come true. My husband gave in (he is allergic to them). So we choose a cockapoo; cockerspaniel and poodle, which seems fine ! She is my joy ! I love her so much. My mood is always a happy one when she's around......she's always around...

Hi Larry, Very cool painting so far...love the transitions of the painting progressing. It's getting late and I thought my eyes were seeing things at first, hahaha. Cool wide format too. I'll be looking for the finish. Ron __________________ http://www.guthrieart.com "Fine Art, one dot at a time" Ron Guthrie Art Blog

Hi Ron, thanks again. I'll talk about the technique in a sec. Thank you Caroline Hi Maxine, and thank you. My approach is to block in all the areas - purple side of rocks, shadowed snow, light snow. Then refine with a round brush by adding darks or light shadows and softening the added darks. Final highlights go on with a rigger loaded with paint for the lightest areas, and used more conventionally for areas that need thin lines or dots....

This was from a photo I took last Spring at the Carpenteria Bluffs. (That's a mountain in the background, not a bumpy ocean.)
C&C always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Wonderful Ron, you recreated a beautifully picturesque scene. I could imagine myself being there with the waves rolling in and a breeze even though I've never made it to Kauai. This is just as good for now!

It's still breathtakingly beautiful, Manny, even if you now headed in a different painting direction. What is so impressive is that the depth illusion is created purely by control of edges and how the paint is applied, i.e. there is very little value or chroma variation between foreground and background.

I like the sky a lot! It's colorful and interesting. The sun looks real, with the bottom edge being obscured.

Hi Randy--and welcome to the landscape forum.
You have a lovely painting here--very pleasing to the eyes. It seems that your horizon is smack in the middle of the canvas, (a problem I'm guilty of sometimes) which makes it a little difficult to add anything in the forefront.
I'm not great at giving critiques, but there are many on this forum who are, and will probably be along to ...

I don't know if this qualifies as a landscape, since there is no land in it (apart perhaps from a couple of submerged rocks!), but I thought it might be worth showing here anyway.
I had planned to paint plein air at Hook Head a couple of weeks back on a fairly pleasant winter's day, following a few days of strong winds and rain. When I got there, it was still fairly windy,...

Another nocturne using the green just for fun. This is just a small one since I have to run to do errands tomorrow so no painting time. I really like this color for night and will probably use it more and more down the line.
