Replying to: Implant vs. Bridge Dear Carrie221b, Your description suggests that although your situation could be managed either way, the fixed bridge makes more sense. First, be advised that the longstanding root fracture on #9 would typically damage the bone in the area, and make it a less optimal recipient site for an implant. Although these areas can be augmented by bone grafting, this does reduce the probability for an optimal outcome. In...

Replying to: TMJ? Can't be sure. Hi I have similar problems but not as severe. I think I clench my teeth or have some other issue like TMJ causing severe pain in my left ear/ side of head. I tend to wake up with the pain in the middle of the night and don't get it during the day but I do notice a stiffness in my jaw which is uncomfortable and pretty constant. I ended up calling my dentist the other day and asking the receptionist if...

Inflamed Nerve from whitestrips?...

Replying to: Inflamed Nerve from whitestrips? Sounds like your tooth reacted to the white strip. But, the good news is, if ibuprofen takes the discomfort away, you should be okay. If heat makes the tooth hurt, I would have it tested by an endodontist. That would be evidence of needing a root canal.

I am a 26-year old female with caps on both of my front teeth (8 and 9). I was in an accident when I was young that broke one of the teeth off and chipped the other. They could not fix them right away because I was young; they did a root canal on 8 but 9 is dead, and I had temporary crowns until my braces came off in high school. I had permanent crowns put on about eight years ago; then, a year and a half ago one came off when I bit into an...

Published (2009-12-13 00:00:00)
Replying to: Implant vs. Bridge Hi! Whenever choosing to fill empty spaces, I always recommend choosing dental implants against dental bridges. This is because a dental implant is a stand-alone solution. When a dental bridge is made, a new crown for # 8 will be made and if # 10 does not have a crown, it will have to be ground down(about 50% of tooth) to make room for the crown. Also if for some reason you get decay underneath either crown,...

Inflamed Nerve from whitestrips?...
Published (2009-12-17 01:29:59)
I began using crest white strips supreme to whiten my teeth, but the pain was too intense and I stopped after two applications. That was earlier last week. Last night, everything was fine, but I accidentally knocked on a front tooth with a pen, very very lightly, and it somehow reverberated and created intense pain. Moments later, the tooth nerve was inflamed and I've been feeling the effects of an inflamed tooth all night (intense...

I had 2 root canals pulled because they were infected. It has been 3 days and I still am swollen and have a really bad taste in my mouth. Will the infection heal on it's own since the teeth are now gone? How long should I wait to get a bridge? (can only get one until insurance starts over)

Replying to: post nasal drip I would have this checked by your doctor. I've had a sinus problem that required a decongestant, because my sinuses were actually blocked from too many antihistamines. I could "smell" an infection, and my breath was bad. However, it wasn't a tooth.

Replying to: TMJ? Can't be sure. 1. TMJ(actually the real term is TMD) is a dental specialty. If you visit your dentist he should have someone to refer you to. 2. If it really is only TMD theres nothing you can do until you've been diagnosed because the treatment variations are quite vast. 3. It sound like you have some myalgia, or neualgia of not just the trigeminal nerve or possibly ...

Replying to: Pain in back of gums It sounds like the wisdom tooth in that area is either causing pressure or pressing against your jaw. This could be causing the issues with chewing, smiling, and swallowing. The gum around the tooth can become inflamed while the tooth is attempting to break through. If the tooth partially breaks through, be careful to keep the area very clean and ...
