Hmm...the balance side is a bit similar, just affixed to a different spot. The dial-side is totally different though. In both cases, the version on my Waltham seems somewhat easier to service, though I wonder if there\'s a tradeoff in effective shock protection.

40's Movado Calendomatic

Movado bought this movement and encased it. There are a number of other manufacturers who bought similar movements... if I remember correctly there are two makers for this type movement. I think they are neat watches and have one myself... but mine was encased by someone else whose name escapes me. Your dial is in very good shape. Enjoy!

I\'m going to be interested to see your watch too, because I just bought one also that sounds much like yours.

mystery movement

To the best of my knowledge, two of the best known companies for making chronographs (Breitling and TAG Heuer) never made a single mechanical chronograph calibre themselves. The Cal. 11 series (incl. Cal. 12, Cal 14, Cal. 15) was developed by Dubois-Depraz on the basis of a Buren movement with Heuer and Breitling funding, so we\'ll leave that one out. Breitling have only just come up with their own Cal. B01 so we are on the verge of...

Moeris pocket watch

Hi there, Unfortunately, we don\'t give evaluations on this forum, as it\'s too difficult to make an accurate estimate based on photographs alone. The watch-chain\'s a ring-clip kind, which would indicate this would\'ve been worn in the watch-pocket of your trousers, with the chain clipped to a belt-loop. Your watch will need a full servicing before you can use it reliably. Make sure you send it to an expert and...

Exacto - restoration results

Thanks SE. Well if someone is interested in Exacto - Rado story here is quite an article about it, by Bruce Shawkey. Some of you, I`m shure, are familiar with it. I may post this link allready , I don`t remember but anyway, here it is in four parts: http://www.equationoftime.com/forums...ad.php?p=52316 Concerning Exacto brand name problems, here is just a paragraph, from that article. As the official company history tells it, several countries...

It looks like it has a ceramic dial which usually means 1920 or earlier but it certainly is post World War I. I agree with getting it serviced if you intend to use it regularly. It\'ll cost as much as the watch is worth to service it but it is a decent Swiss movement.

Hi, I recently acquired this Lanco Swiss watch and judging by its condition I don\'t think its had a lot of use! I like the dial and it runs well. Anyone have one like it or know anything interesting about it? It has this stamped in between the lugs: Movement looks like this (not my photograph, I haven\'t taken the back off myself). It looks like a FHF (Standard) caliber 96.

I just found this site today and have been getting an education! I have a vintage Zodiac (photo attached) I purchased some time ago and I would appreciate any help with information and value (which I know will be just a rough estimate). The numbers on the back have been worn off and you can barely see the SST 36000 on the face. It is an Automatic Movement and it runs "good" but tends to stop on ...

I tend to collect movements. Although I focus my limited resources on Waltham and Benrus watches, I\'ll pick up anything that looks different and interesting, especially if its cheap. I do my own repair and cleaning, so I can afford to take on watches that wouldn\'t otherwise be practical. In theory, I strive to make all my watches "wearable", but on a daily basis I tend to stick to either my...

I am thinking about picking up a chronograph on ebay today. The seller says it is a 17 jewel Sorna manufacture calibre s171 Tag Heuer movement. The watch was made in the late 1970's. Does anyone know if Tag Heuer ever made such a movement? I've done a search of this forum and didn't come up with anything. Is there some sort of website that I could do some research on this movement?
Thanks Guys!...

I was doing a search of Sorna watches when I came across this youtube video of a seller/collector. He is a man after my own heart....just wish I could afford to buy everything I want! Oh well, it just makes the small purchases that much sweeter.

Hello, I have purchased a silver Moeris pocket watch from the flea market. Dating, value estimate and a general judgement of how good a watch it is would be very welcome. By the way I don\'t know anything about watches. Here are the pictures: The back inscription reads (hopefully also legible from the photo): ANCRE MOERIS Grand Prix Berne 1914 Membre du Jury Milan 1906 HORS CONCOURS...

If you post a pic of the movement the experts can tell much much more! Probably one of the hundreds of brands that the quartz killed off. Nice looking watch!

1940s probably, maybe 1930s.Case is probably nickel-chrome.That crown is little strange, but photo of the movement would clear any doubts.

There vas a topic about the value of restored watches a weak or so ago. I was disapointed that debate didn`t took a longer path and that there was not more opinions about this mather. This is an example of why I can`t look on my lost time and some smaller sums of money spent on restoration, as a loss, even if we are talking about non "star", unknown watches. I simply enjoy the restoring ...

It\'s a lottery, I service and repair my own watches and so tend to buy watches from ebay that have newly surfaced after lying in a drawer for thirty years. But I recently bought an early Tavannes wristwatch from ebay, which was described as \'just serviced, tested for a week and suitable for everyday use\'. On receiving the watch it had a very poor action, gained 10mins in 4hours and was ...

Searching for a vintage dress watch led me to this recent acquisition, an Eterna manual wind which I show here for your interest and of course, comments if you wish. Unfortunately, my pictures don\'t do the plain silvered dial justice, but I find the understated and simple effect of the whole watch very pleasing. Cheers

Hi,
I recently acquired this watch from my father, who believes it was his
fathers, who was born circa 1890 in England.
I have taken some close up photos of it and displayed them here:-

I do know he served in ...

My mother offered this VETTA to my father when they were a young couple, in the 60s', in Italia…
It's a really gorgeous watch, nice & thin, but the original strap was broken long time ago, and my father had it replaced hastily by an hideous expansion band
His birthday is closing, and I had the idea to propose him as a birthday present a new band for this watch. He joyfully accepted....
