I wasn't expecting you to fall down like that!!! When I saw you stand up with the weight, I was like what's the problem....and you fell. What do you think caused that? Were you leaning to far back, or did you black out? Other then that, good job on the meet!!!

Hook grip users?
Published (2009-11-12 22:48:00)
I use a mixed grip, but hook my thumbs on both hands. It works well. I trained with a guy who got pretty good at the double overhand hook, he could pull 675 or so, then would have trouble dropping it. He did use tape to get used to it.

question about 5/3/1
Published (2009-11-13 14:54:00)
i had alot of trouble when i started my squatting on 531 since i was so used to low reps my 1rm was 500 and i took 90% of it and it was still just too much for me to rep so i dropped it another 5 % so maybe reset it at 85%

2 things...
1...you should NEVER care about what your opening with. Your opener is to get you into the meet, and nothing more. If its your first meet, you should probably open even lighter because lifting in a meet is NOTHING like lifting in the gym. Nerves, the crowd, listening to the commands, everything can and will get to you.
2..you should go into a meet confident in your ...

In the above chart, under Mens 220lbs class, what does the 20-24 category mean? Is it for age (20-24 years of age)? And if so, why doesn't every weight class have the same ages? Thanks in advance for the help!...

by getting there
I am not sure if it is an advanced method per se, I just think it is another way to train. The basic premise of his program is that you are striving to set rep PR's in the 4 main lifts, i.e. bench, squat, dead, and OH press each week. It is more for the unequiped lifter but I believe others have modified it to fit into training with gear.
I suggest buying the book. It has an excellent ...

Nice work man! I've been following your training on elite, and I'm glad you
set some PRs. It sucks that your shoulder held you back, but you will get
it next time. I also want to mention how big of a help your article on raw
training is and how much your log helps us raw lifters. Keep up the good
work man!

I still lift raw.. but I'd like to get into equipped eventually just so I can hit a 1000lb squat.. I think it would be amazing having 1000+lbs on my back..

Congratulations on what looked to be an enjoyable meet sambone!
Im not an APA judge, but my guess on that third deadlift would be they called you for not having control of the weight at the top.
From the video it looked like a good pull until lockout, when you went over backwards.
Hate you missed it, but the good news is you didn't miss it on strength.

That much of a difference in 2 months is very odd, it sounds like something else is wrong. If you were able to do 25 total reps with 315lbs. and now are only able to do 2 total reps you may be overtrained or maybe your diet has fallen off. You might have been going to heavy on our secondary squats. Post what you have been doing with weights, it will be easier to see whats going on.

a little over a year for me. I really pushed for it too, and since I knew my bench wouldn't be a big help I went balls to the wall with deadlifts as often as possible. I'm at year 2 now, and I'm just starting to fall in love with squats.

Impressive squat man! You've made some crazy gains this year. Didn't you
post a vid about a month ago about squatting 585 or something? And now you
are hitting 630lbs. Keep up the good work and good luck with breaking that
record.
