This is fantastic advice. We are definitely going to try hand feeding for a while and report back. Thanks so, so much!

We just bought this little device, called the tattle tale, it's an alarm that goes off from vibration. Trying to use it to keep our little couch eater off the couch... so far it doesn't go off when he jumps on the couch but does as soon as he sniffs at it. So it at least lets us know when he is on the couch and we can get to him before any damage is done. Anyone use this with any success for behavioral training?

Potty Training Question.

Agreed with Shelby's comments. Also-our younger boston Elsie (1 year 4 months old) was hard to potty train-well probably normal but Emma was so easy to train it made elsie seem like quite the task. Anyway, even now when I'm home I take elsie outside every hour n a half to two hours-if I see she has drank a ton of water, I take her out shortly after drinking it. same goes for food. As for pooping-some bostons need awhile to find...

Potty Training Question.
Published (2009-12-21 17:40:00)
Yeah, if she's in there for the entire day, that just may be too long for her. All dogs are different in the amount of time they take to get it. She's probably also in the routine now of pooping in her crate. I'd try to interupt that routine and get her on a new one by coming home at lunch, or paying someone to come and let her out for a mid day potty break.

We walk ours, but they love to play with each other throughout the day. There play time usually lasts about 10-15 min each where they run together, play bitey mouth, bop... and then they go back to sleep. I really do believe two is better than one because they really do keep each other company. Becky was happy alone, but was thrilled when Jojo arrived. They love eachother so much, they...

Maybe something outside spooked her in the dark? Sounds odd, especially since it has just started. Maybe it has just intensified, maybe you didn't notice before? And now you notice all her little triggers. I would give her time, try to take her thru it, and show that there is nothing to fear. I know I have some unreasonable fears, sometimes I am afraid of the dark also. She has been thru ...

its not strange at all for rescues to have some food agrression . dont feed her in her crate thats her place and if she wants to guard it that only makes it worse you are doing the right thing by making her understand you dont like her snapping at you . can you feed her by hand only a bite at a time from your hand and when not eating will she let you put your hands in her mouth with out ...

How often are you feeding? Do you have a set schedule - you take her out at the same times, etc.? I know that my dogs have to poop three times a day and if they don't, then we are walking until they do even if it is cold, rainy, snowy, whatever. It means that I freeze too, but it shows them that the faster they do their thing, the faster they get to go back to a warm spot. Also, how much ...

Let me clarify, He pooped outside twice in the morning (730 and 10) and then was put in his crate at 10a and by 2:30. He'd pooped again in his crate!! He has severe separation anxiety so I'm thinking that is what is causing this.

I don't think it's separation anxety, I think it's boredom. Some dogs need to be crated when they can't be supervised, don't feel guilty.

I posted a couple months ago about how our new Boston, Baby, was having a really hard time adjusting to our existing Boston, Cooper, and how Cooper just wanted to play so badly and Baby wouldn't stop growling and nipping at him. I feared that they might not ever be buddies, or worse, that Baby would rip Cooper apart if I kept her in our home. Within three or four weeks of that post, they started ...

Buy more than one of the same toy. Seriously, not sure what to do - mine don't share well, but then again, it's not a fun toy unless someone else has it (kind of like kids).
