I'm certain this was the priority reason for Pleasure Island going away. Not far from DTD, are some pretty icky areas. My son was stationed at Vista Way during the College Program (college housing) and the area around it, outside its secured compound, not so good. Gave me the Willies.

I totally want to do that! I went in 1998 -- took 2 weeks off (which was a miracle in and of itself to get off at work) and went to WDW having NO CLUE that the taping was earlier ... which I found out was the first weekend I was there ... Disney info desks won't tell you anything -- about tapings, performances, etc., in case it is rescheduled or relocated. VERY frustrating -- I was the most depressed person in MK on Xmas day that year. So...

My fiancee and I will be checking in the Boardwalk Inn on Friday afternoon. I'm sure I will be the only guy there where maroon baseball hat underneath some sort of mouse ears. What Push (the trash can) termed "a hat on a hat". Have yall heard any thing else as to where the meet is going to be? Still the beach at the Poly?

It starts some time in the begining of January and ends at the end febuary. I would check the WDW website for more details. I wonder what they are going to do to it. It is going to be closed for a whole two months!

Thanks for the post. The photos look promising but I guess the 70's era astronauts that were once visable in the queue window are now gone...that's sad to me.

Nothing has been mentioned on the podcast, but since the refurb is only about a month, I would not expect anything major. Most likely just standard maintainance and repainting.

I was lucky enough to secure tickets as well. We were on the wait list, but we were notified yesterday that tickets were available for us. Thank goodness. We had already booked out plane tickets and DVC room. Also, my sister will be coming. It's her first trip to the World and she's soo excited.

seems like a cool new use for the steamboats. have they ever had a parade on them before? i also liked the live instruments in the beginning. it was a nice touch to hae actual instruments playing rather than what comes over the loudspeakers
