Feel free to use PM if you don't want to post it on a public forum. PM being sent i though it was well known where i bought the bike

And another thing If you have a service manual it says nothing in the service manual about maintance on the shaft. By the way how many miles are on your bike. Mine is the red/black just like yours.

Having put about 14K miles on my 90 drive mod I can honestly say there is no downside. It even improved my gas milage about 4 miles per gallon (Used to average 44 mpg, now get 48 mpg). The money it costs could be viewed as a downside but your probably going to spend $ on accessories anyhow and this is by far the best after market accessorty money can buy for the VL800. I wouldn't even think about going back to stock gearing. Ever....

Great information. Thanks for the step by step and photos. This is the kind of information that I need to maintain my C50 and to keep the costs down from having it done at the dealership.

ebay, craigs list or our swap meet if someone moves up and sell off their drive. More likely you will have to acquire a used VS1400 or LC1500 or a C90 Drive and have it modified. Each in their own way Also the un-modded drives are not dirt cheap anymore. running $200-$400 plus the cost of the type of drive modd done to it. C90 drive can be modded by Dan Hills ( http://www.hillisfabrication.com/ ) the originator of the mod and a few others...

Will the dealership install this MOD if you supplied the parts? I'm guessing this would void any warrenty, but mine is not covered anymore. I have seen the Drives in the neighborhood of $450, but wonder what the labor would be to install it. I am definately not mechanically inclined.

C90 and VL1500 drives are identical. A C90 drive, in theory may have less miles on it, seeing as VL1500's have been around longer than C90's, but that is a minor consideration. VS1400 drives are nice in that they use the same diameter axle as the C50. C90 or VL1500 require an axle bushing in order to be used with the 800 axle, but that too is not really a big deal. Both the ...
