Yeah i already drilled some holes and punched through the two plates. Was there much of a difference between that and reomoving the baffles completely?

K&N and UNI suck?

The primary reason people purchase UNI and K&N filters is because they are less restrictive and more durable that paper and cloth filters, not better at filtration. Just like drilling holes in the football, the more air you provide the engine, the more potential horsepower you can produce. If you’re concerned about better filtration, stay with the stock filter. The test results were based off of a truck with absolutely no performance...

Honest Abe, Debaffle, and...
Published (2009-12-13 06:55:00)
I have just completed the Honest Abe mod. Could not get the bike out right now due to heavy rain and storms, but it sounded great in the carport. Drilled four 5/8" holes in rear plate of each pipe, 3/4" hole driven through 3rd plate (first one without center hole). I have a 3/4" solid sharpened round-stock bar I made at work if anyone is nearby and wants to use it. Just pass it along to another member when...

K&N and UNI suck?
Published (2009-12-13 14:35:00)
Nothing new in that article.....................OEM filters "filter" better than most after market ones (ie. K&N, UNI, etc.). I converted my pick-up to a cold air system with K&N and a free flowing exhaust. It was a significant increase in performance. Does it filter better? NO, however I can clean and re-use it for a looooonnnngggg time and in the environment in which I use the truck the engine won't...

I did my 09 50T back last summer. Some say it will lose power but I got right off mine and on an 09 with unpunched pipes and couldnt tell any difference other than the sound. If you can, just punch through the plates and drill 6 or so holes in the back plate and see what you think about that. Then find sombody thats debaffled their 50 and listen to it. You might just leave it the baffles in. ...

For what it's worth, I just remembered that the pipes currently on my '07 are from an '04 Volusia. My '07 pipes are being kept stock in storage. I would think that you would have to pierce 2 plates but wait for someone to confirm this. And I would think the cat would be right the 2nd plate that you pierce so maybe don't follow thru too far. I'm not counting the rear plate.

Some of the Exhuast manufactures like Roadhouse make three different types of baffles to get different sounds. I ordered the quite baffle but honest it only seems to have made more of a rumble.

Blueing usually means "lean" and soot usually means "rich". I think what you're getting on the turn signal and on the garage floor is condensation from the mufflers (very common with this bike). As far as the blueing on the pipe I can't help you. My Straight Shots are on a Vulcan and are "black" on the outside as well as the inside.
