Your Sony Vaio Z1VA would probably have originally had a 60GB IDE hard drive. I only found 1 drive that size listed on NewEgg.com. You should be able to get a larger size with no problem - whatever your budget can afford, from 80 GB to 320 GB. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=&srchInDesc=

PowerQuest Partition Magic was the software for disk partitioning a few years ago but Ever since they were purchased by Norton, they have gone down the proverbial toilet. There are free disk partitioning software which are free but Unable to comment on them personally. Other members here will have to comment/suggest. Last method, would be...

hi. thanks for the quick replies! Quote: I do not know you did but I only have 18 GB as my C: partition and the remaining 620 GB for various data, in separate partitions. Well... XP takes up close to 6GB. And Program Files folder is almost 14GB. Just all the Adobe software is around 4.5GB, then there's Propellorhead Reason which is about 1.5GB, etc... ctfmon.exe?
Published (2009-11-24 13:55:00)
So should I disable ctfmon.exe then? I want to keep as much resource for the other application without ctfmon.exe using up any. I know that 14K isn't that much to make a diffrence, but I don't have alot on this system.

I think you need to try an over-the-top re-install of Windows XP here. Boot up with the XP CD in the drive and let Setup run. Go past the "C" and "R" repair options by pressing Enter just as if you're doing a clean install and you'll eventually get an option to "Repair an existing installation". That's the one you want. If it asks about formatting you've gone wrong, so start over. You'll get ...

Upload ctfmon.exe to http://www.virustotal.com/ for a security check: See what they have to say. I have office 2000 installed and do not see it running. Even though it is in system32.

Insert your XP CD into the drive. Click on Start / run and type: sfc /scannow A progression bar will appear for ~15 minutes. Reboot when complete. Post back if this has resolved the issue. TB

Right-click "My Computer", select "Properties", then click the "General" tab (if not already selected). If you see "64-bit" or "x64" up at the top in the Operating System section, you're running the 64-bit Edition.
