[quote="55Greg&Amy"]Welcome to the forum, When I worked on my hood scoop, the previous owner had it installed with 3 studs and one sheet metal screw. I was able to remove the scoop and run a tap into the scoop to clean up the threads and installed my own studs made from either a 10-24 or 10-32 bolt (oldtimers keeps me from remembering which thread pitch) with the heads cut off. This was easily done by using my...

I believe my car was original when I got it - everything seems to point at that. It didn't have a block-off plate - lived its life in SoCal. The scoop grille was mounted with three studs that had clips and speed nuts - the fourth stud was missing. Like others I replaced the missing stud with a chunk of the right sized stainless screw - and Loctited it in place. My guess is that the block off got sandwiched onto the same studs with the...

There are two screw/bolt fasteners just behind the bumper that go vertically into the bottom front of the light housing... there is one more centered at the top of the housing (also behind the bumper). These should be accessible lying on your back. The entire housing can then be removed from behind the bumper. Disconnect the wire connector leaving the pigtail on the housing. If I ...

Based on some advice from another forum member, I temporarily rewired the dimmer switch with 3 jumper wires. I connected the red/yellow +12 v wire on the molded plug to the common terminal on the dimmer switch and connected the high beam and low beam wires from the molded plug to the two switched terminals on the dimmer switch. I reconnected the battery, pulled the headlight switch and tested ...

Its quite possible the color changed with heat and time, but usually darkens to a deeper red (if that makes sense). It definitely shouldn't be looking more orange than red as this is how Chebby red appears when the two are side by side. At a car show you will see several shades of Ford red, but all should be similar. I have had great results with the color and durability of the engine paint ...

I didn't have this VIN in my database, but it appears to be a mid-March '56 build date if that helps. It's now duly noted in case a data plate reference pops up somewhere else, and I'm assuming others who are keeping track of '55-7 info will track it as well as the '57 data plate info. Thanks for posting the info. _________________ Alan H. Tast, AIA Technical Director/Past President,...

I know this prolly crosses the line, but anyone here have experience or know someone directly with experience in swapping the standard transmission for a T-5 or even a toploader? I know there are several adaptor plate sources, and I understand about spine compatabilities, and the drive shaft must be lengthened, but I'm most curious as the clearences in the tranny tunnel... I dont relish ...

Be aware that most insurance companies will not allow private owners to rent antique cars for hire. Good luck.

Wire wheels were NOT available for 55-57 T-Birds as ORIGINAL equipment. Original KH wire wheels for the T-Bird Roadsters are stamped KH and also Ford in the center near the bolt holes. Those E-Pay wheels have 10 bolt holes to possibly fit Ford and something else, but the original KH/Ford only have 5 holes in the Ford pattern. Those 10 hole wheels are like the ones I have on my 57 and they ...
