one study of 200 coyote in Maine showed that one "coyote" was 89% wolf, so there's some near pure in our backyards.

If NH is spending $6,000,000 annually to carefully cultivate an image of their state being a fun and safe place to bring your family, one would think they would realize that negative publicity is like shooting a big hole in that image. Money which actually is coming out of taxpayer pockets, yet you don't hear many people screaming about how much of their tax dollar is being spent on making people come here in the first place . Why?...

Tim I agree that charging for S&R doesn't bring in much but on the other hand I also don't see where it would have much of an impact on where a person hikes. NH has some of the best hiking on the east coast. So what does a person say from eastern Mass have for an alternative? Drive 5 more hour into Maine? Go to VT with limited timberline? Drive even farther to the Ads? The 911 yuppies are going to come anyways. I think if...

Anyways when I heard Merrell had stopped making them around 1997-98, decided to buy a second pair in 1999 to keep for another decade. Last year I bit the bullet and ...

I'm not a fan of rescue recoupment laws. But putting aside the larger debate, does it make sense to apply these laws to minors? The rationale for recoupment is that hikers will behave more responsibly if they know they might bear the cost of a rescue. The brains of adolescents are not fully developed. Minors (especially boys) engage in reckless behavior because they often fail to perceive the ...

I bought a Patagonia down sweater for 50% off at the Summit Shop in Littleton. Apparently they move any leftovers with discontinued colors upstairs to the bargain area. Great deal, $100 vs. $200 and this jacket is super packable and quite warm.

I have some nylon based plastic sheet stuff at work called Kydex. It has worked great and is tough as nails. I've pop riveted it to snowshoes n crampons and it hasn't come off in years. Keeps the snowballs off very nicely. e-mail me your address and I can send you some if you want?

I have a vague recollection that the object is first knitted and THEN boiled. I think the wool shrinks a bit, so it has to be made oversized. Something tells me that miraculous tool, Google, might be of help here.

Not entirely sure I understand what you are asking. Obviously, the sun came up today so the date of the latest sunrise would be 11/22/09.
